Assistant Accountant

After an extended period of growth, we are looking for an experienced accounting professional to join our finance team based in Cairns. The role involves providing support across a portfolio of businesses including NightOwl Convenience, Think Commercial, a Cairns based commercial property management company managing properties throughout Cairns, Townsville, Hervey Bay, and Brisbane, The Benson Hotel, and Regus Serviced Offices in Townsville.
Working alongside the CFO and Financial Controllers, you will work across the finance team assisting with all aspects of the financial processes for the group, including planning and implementation.
Responsibilities Manage the weekly payroll function for full-time staff and casual staff. Reconciliation of tax, superannuation, and authorised payroll deductions including STP. Completion and management of general ledger reconciliations across all group companies ensuring good governance and control. Other statutory reporting functions as needed. Ensure the financial and administration support is delivered efficiently and effectively and any improvements identified and acted on. Provide assistance to the Financial Controller as and when required. AP data entry and statement reconciliation. Skills and Experience Required 2-3 years payroll experience. 2-3 years accounts payable experience (preferred but not essential). Excellent proficiency in Excel. Good knowledge of technology and payroll systems. Thorough understanding of Flexibility Agreements and Awards and National Employment Standards. A collaborative team member with a high level of personal drive and self-motivation. Proven ability to interact with stakeholders from financial and non-financial backgrounds.
