THE COMPANY
West African Resources Limited is an ASX listed gold company (trading symbol: WAF).
The Company is committed to delivering shareholder value through current open pit and underground operational activities at Sanbrado, in addition to a well-planned strategy of growth through targeted exploration and development opportunities.
SANBRADO GOLD OPERATION
The Company owns and operates the Sanbrado Gold Operation (Sanbrado) in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Sanbrado is located about 90km east-southeast of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso and encompasses both underground and open pit mining operations.
The underground mine is accessed through a box-cut and portal immediately southwest of the M1 South open pit.
The mines are all within 1-2km of the plant which is a conventional SABC milling circuit, gravity and carbon in leach processing with a nominal throughput capacity of 2.5Mtpa.
The Sanbrado operations continue to perform well, with a remaining mine life of at least 10 years at an average of 200,000ozs.
OTHER PROJECTS
The Company acquired the Kiaka Gold Project (Kiaka) in 2021.
Kiaka is a large-scale, permitted development open pit project and hosts 7.7Moz gold Mineral Resource (280Mt at 0.9 g/t Au).
Kiaka has a long-life, low-cost project averaging 219,000ozpa for 18.5 years at AISC of US$1,052/oz.
Construction of the Kiaka Gold Project is well underway and remains on schedule to achieve first gold in 2025.
In addition to Kiaka, the Company remains focused on preparation for the Toega Open Pit and M5 South Underground (Sanbrado).
THE ROLE
West African Resources is seeking applications from experienced Senior Mining Engineers to join the Sanbrado open pit mining team.
The successful applicant for this role will have the opportunity to:
Work as part of a very strong technical team (mining, geology, and surveying) to grow their professional experience and contribute to the success of the open pit operation; Support the transfer of skills and professional development of our national workforce.
Our ideal candidate will have completed their tertiary qualifications and have experience in an operating open pit (gold) mining environment, with exposure to the following functions:
Monitoring production activities and targets; Liaising with a mining Contractor, contract management, and compliance control; Designing and planning drill and blast activities to maximize the value of the ore body; Preparation of short, medium, and long term mine plans and schedules; Detailed mine cost modeling and operational budgeting.
A working knowledge and commitment to working within safety standards is essential.
Candidates who have previous experience in specialist mining or engineering consultancies are encouraged to apply.
Applications are sought from experienced mining professionals who have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering; A proven commitment to work at a high professional and technical standard; Experience working as a Senior Mining Engineer in open pit gold mining; Experience and competency in using mining software (Deswik would be highly regarded); A genuine commitment to working safely and promoting safe working practices; Good communication skills – written and verbal; Language: English (spoken and written) essential; Language: French (spoken and/or written) highly regarded.
