Position Overview: A newly developed role for a Heritage Advisor with a focus on Compliance was added to the Compliance Team within the Cultural Heritage Unit.
Under the direction of the Compliance Team Leader, you will assist the team of four with daily support, review and reporting tasks related to:
Compliance inspectionsRepatriationsTraining / InductionsThis includes handling Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs), Cultural Heritage Permits (CHPs), Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Land Management Agreements (ACHLMAs), and issues related to the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Regulations 2018.
The role can be based at the Ballarat or Geelong Offices and locations across Wadawurrung Country as required.

Key Responsibilities: Handle administrative tasks for Compliance cases, including creating and updating case files and records, and managing bookings within WTOAC systems.Assist with repatriation tasks, including research, stakeholder engagement, and report preparation.Work with Aboriginal Heritage Officers and inspectors to gather data and prepare reports and briefs.Build and maintain relationships with WTOAC stakeholders, enforcement agencies, Traditional Owner organizations, and government authorities.Participate in developing and implementing operational policies for enforcement and compliance.Administer training sessions for external stakeholders.What personal profile will succeed with us: A confident, clear and cordial communicator who fosters positive working relationships.An autonomous self-starter who works collaboratively within the team and the wider organisation.An individual with high ethical standards and integrity who follows safe work practices without shortcuts.A dependable person committed to providing an awesome professional experience.A purpose-driven individual who cares for country and has a genuine appreciation of and respect for Aboriginal people and their culture and heritage.A receptive collaborator who can adapt to changing circumstances and adjust priorities.Key Selection Criteria: Basic understanding and interest in applying the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Victoria), with the ability to interpret and apply the legislation, especially for enforcement and compliance.Skills and knowledge can be gained through: A relevant degree (e.g., in Archaeology) with little experience, or less formal qualifications with relevant experience, or significant experience in Aboriginal Heritage Compliance.Interpreting and recommending actions for managing conditions.Conducting compliance inspections independently or as part of a team.Maintaining accurate records and creating meaningful data analysis and reports.Organising and responding to various stakeholder needs.Managing tasks effectively, prioritizing based on urgency and impact.What We Offer: An opportunity to make a meaningful impact in cultural heritage management.Support for professional development and training.Flexible working conditions with a collaborative and respectful work environment.How to apply: If you are passionate about cultural heritage and meet the criteria for this role, we invite you to apply
