At the SEC, we are building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria's transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria's renewable energy target of 95% by 2035. Your role As a Legal Counsel at the SEC you will be responsible for advising on legal and regulatory risks relating to the SEC's business operations, including its renewable asset investment, development and project delivery activities. What you will do: Core accountabilities include: Legal Advice: Provide commercially relevant legal guidance on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters, supporting the SEC's strategic business decisions and operations. Contracts and Agreements: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to draft, review, and negotiate key contracts related to the SEC's operations. Legal Risk Management: Proactively identify and manage legal risks to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a liaison between executives, internal teams, external advisers, and other stakeholders. Matter Management & Capability Building: Oversee external legal services and procurement, manage in-house legal matters. Who you are: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are: You are (or are eligible to be) an Australian lawyer with a practising certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria). You have 2+ years' experience as a practising lawyer. Highly Desirable: Experience in the energy sector or construction law. Strong commercial drafting skills. Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and collaboration abilities. A passion for teamwork and contributing to a positive team culture.
