About the role
As the Work Health Safety & Permit Coordinator, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the health & safety compliance across all Darwin Port operations.
You will advise and support Darwin Port employees, stakeholders and contractors in all aspects of WHS management and processes, including risk assessments, incident reporting, and permit to work.
Based at East Arm Wharf this role offers the opportunity to develop your skills in a dynamic and challenging environment.
What you'll be doing
Manage the Permit to Work program, including assessing permit applications, conducting field inspections & coordinating meetings & risk assessment workshops Conduct workplace inspections, staff inductions and risk assessments Manage the Verification of Competency (VOC) system Assist with the development, implementation and review of work health and safety policies, procedures and systems Provide guidance and support to employees and contractors on work health and safety requirements Conduct safety inspections, audits and investigations to identify and mitigate risks Ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety legislation and regulations Collaborate with stakeholders to continuously improve safety performance and practices Assist in implementing, executing, and delivering environmental assigned tasks, activities, and projects What we're looking for
Certificate IV level qualification in Work Health & Safety as a minimum Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment Five plus years experience in a Work Health and Safety Coordinator or similar role, preferably in the maritime industry Knowledge and experience with permit issuing In-depth knowledge of NT work health and safety legislation, regulations and best practices Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or an environmentally related discipline is desirable Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage others Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to identify and mitigate risks Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team You will be expected to carry out your position in alignment with the Darwin Port values of Teamwork, Respect, Integrity, Honesty and Safety .
