The RoleThis Engineering Communications role within the Combat Systems Program is an excellent opportunity to engage with stakeholders, perform and achieve very complex communications engineering work within an integrated workforce.
The role requires delivering a radio frequency communications system and networking capability to the Collins Class submarine.
Engineering functions include managing requirements, analysing communications system performance and verifying the implementation.
The Engineer is accountable to perform and achieve very complex communications engineering work in compliance with legislative frameworks, and Defence's mission and policy requirements.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).
This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.
Please Note: The successful candidate may be required to undertake work on and be provided with technical information pertaining to defence articles of United States of America (US) origin.
In accordance with the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), any applicant who holds, or has previously held, citizenship or permanent residency of a country other than Australia will be required to declare and indicate the country or countries of citizenship or permanent residency.
Restrictions on access to defence articles and associated technical data subject to the ITAR by dual national employees may apply.
About our TeamSubmarine Combat Systems Program within National Shipbuilding Sustainment Group (NSSG) is responsible for the acquisition and sustainment of Collins Class submarine Program.

You will also have the opportunity to continue your professional learning.Personally rewarding: You will be an integral part of the close professional and specialised community, alongside the Navy Submariners, technical professionals and industry, in supporting Australia's submarine capability.The key duties of the position include: Lead, plan and deliver critical complex engineering activities and provide advice in the field of submarine communications system.Work collaboratively, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.Manage workflows, resources and prepare work and team plans by detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.Ensure that delivered material meets the requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.Have in-depth knowledge of the communications engineering function and be responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function.Eligibility Security ClearanceApplicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance of 'Negative Vetting 1'.
Mandatory QualificationsThis engineering position requires a Bachelor of Engineering – Telecommunications/ Communications systems from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer.
