An attractive annual salary in the range of $78,000 to $86,500 plus superannuation is on offer for this position.
Please note: Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply for this position.
As this is a designated position, a Certificate of Aboriginality will be required prior to an offer of employment being made.
About the OpportunityGEO has an exciting Fixed-Task Full-Time opportunity for an Aboriginal Wellbeing Officer at Fulham Correctional Centre. The Aboriginal Wellbeing Officer (AWO) is responsible for the provision of pre and post-release services that promote health, wellbeing, and 'healing' of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners, their families, and the broader Aboriginal community. As the AWO, you will have direct prisoner contact and support people's cultural wellbeing, spiritual, and traditional needs. You will support new receptions in their adjustment to the prison environment, participate in case-management and reintegration planning, and motivate and support engagement in programs and services that seek to reduce re-offending. You will also lead the coordination of cultural activities including NAIDOC events and Aboriginal-specific programs within the prison.
The AWO also provides individual support to Aboriginal prisoners at times of crisis, provides education in relation to cultural heritage and identity, and supports prisoners with issues related to family reconnection and community reintegration. The AWO will identify as an Aboriginal Australian and ideally have a background in social work, welfare, or community services.
Your Skills & ExperienceTo be successful in the role, you will possess the following:
