Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.ABOUT THE ROLEAFL NSW / ACT Coach Developers aim to deliver coach learning methods (coach education, facilitation, assessing, mentoring and reflection) with club coaches within their coaching context at club level.
Trained coach developers will work with clubs and club coaches to identify individual performance & learning needs, while targeting whole-club coaching development of coaches within participating clubs.
Coaching behavioural change and creating a 'player centered' environment are key focuses of Coach Developers.Coach developers include all those who have undergone training to fulfil coach learning delivery methods to support effective coach development within coach's context and that meet the learner's (coach's) unique needs in specific situations.
This deepens the coach reflection, enriching the on-the-job experiences and accelerating the onset of coach expertise.Roles and responsibilitiesThe development of the specific role and responsibilities of the Club Coach Coordinator will depend on the specific needs of the individual club; however, the following roles and responsibilities are likely to be core:Develop a Club Coaching Charter or Coaching Handbook, including a club coaching philosophy and game day expectations.Guide coach's approach, behavior, and expectations.Assist the club to appoint a coaching coordinator, the clubs coach coordinator will be the contact for coaches and connection to the coach developer and State coaching lead and coordinator.Assist coaches to access coaching resources available (e.g., LearnAFL, RM Coach, Junior Coaching Curriculum).Facilitate club coaches' meetings to provide an environment where coaches share ideas and learn from each other, discuss club coaching directions, and provide learning opportunities.Informal support for coaches throughout the year – touch base with coaches regularly.Create an online learning, sharing and support platform (e.g., WhatsApp, Closed Facebook Coaching Group).Observe coaches at training and game day to provide feedback of coaching practice.Types of Coach Education & Learning Provided in the RoleClub Base Workshops & Seminars.Small Group & Individual Coach Development Sessions.Key RelationshipsDirect reports: AFL NSW / ACT State Coaching LeadOther key relationships: Club Coaching Community, Coaching Director / Coordinator, AFL NSW / ACT Coaching Coordinator.Key Performance IndicatorsTo improve regional community club coaching programs, with a focus on enhancing the quality of the club coaching environment at this level.Improve knowledge of and access to coach learning and education resources in community clubs.Core CompetenciesProfessional Knowledge – Teaching & coaching expertise.Inter-personal Knowledge – Relationship building & influencing.Intra-personal Knowledge – Reflective practice, learning practice.Knowledge of the 4Cs (Competency, Confidence, Connection & Character) & how they influence coaching individual / team development.MandatorySilver Coach AFL Accreditation.10 years + experience in coaching across a range of age groups.Sound coaching expertise.DesirableGold Coach AFL Accreditation.Bachelor (University) Degree or greater.Coach Developer Training Modules (e.g., UK Open University).Other industry high level leadership and Mentoring.Child Safety StandardsThe AFL is committed to providing professional, safe, and enjoyable environments to children and young people who participate in our game.
