About the Role THIS IS A FIXED TERM POSITION UNTIL 31st DECEMBER 2027. The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) is responsible for ensuring the Gunns Gully Road Interchange Project is designed and constructed to DTP standards and requirements.
The Surveillance Officer – Hume Freeway Projects will provide on-site assurance for the project, including traffic management, service relocation works, earthworks, bridgeworks, pavements, drainage, re-surfacing, and traffic signals according to established project scope, design, and specifications.
Due to complex traffic management restrictions along Hume Freeway, some works will be carried out after hours (Nightworks), and the role will require work outside of normal business hours.
This role will focus on the surveillance of the Gunns Gully Road Interchange Project located at Gunns Gully Rd, Beverage.
Project Assurance – Ensure works are executed in accordance with specifications, technical standards, codes of practice, and legislation.Project Monitoring – Provide timely advice and records on progress against schedule, budget, and resources, and support the evaluation of contractor claims.Construction and OH&S Advice – Provide advice on construction practices and review complex traffic management plans.Community Engagement – Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the community.Quality and Risk Management – Prepare risk-based surveillance plans and conduct audits.Team Operations – Promote and support safe, inclusive, and flexible team operations.Key Selection Criteria We seek a Surveillance Officer to ensure successful project delivery by coordinating tasks, guiding execution, and maintaining accurate records.
The role involves monitoring progress, taking corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with standards.
The ideal candidate will apply critical thinking to resolve issues and excel in stakeholder management, fostering strong relationships, and effective communication.
Expertise in construction management is essential, with a focus on performance monitoring and identifying innovative solutions.
A commitment to continuous improvement is highly valued.

Qualifications and Experience Mandatory A minimum of five years' experience in road and bridge construction.A relevant certification in civil construction.Comprehensive understanding of construction processes, safety regulations, and quality standards.Experience in liaising with contractors and key stakeholders.Role Specific Requirements This position will require work outside of normal business hours, including regular night work and weekends.
