DBI Risk Assessments – Lead Ongoing opportunity at Victorian Management Insurance Authority (VMIA)Melbourne CBD close to Flinders Street stationNewly created full time, ongoing opportunityYour role VMIA provides Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) for builders in Victoria. As the DBI Risk Assessments – Lead, you will support the DBI program by performing end-to-end assessments on high value / complex builder eligibility applications, including playing a lead role in the Team.
Reporting to the Head of DBI Risk Assessments in the DBI division, you will serve as a key point of contact for our insurance distribution network, ensuring clear communication and collaboration on eligibility assessment outcomes within specified timeframes and provide guidance and oversight for Senior Builder Risk Analysts and administration team.
What you do You perform end to end assessments on high value / complex builder eligibility applications. This includes making recommendations regarding large builder eligibility levels and large multi-unit and owner builder exposures prior to insurance approval.You manage Senior Builder Risk Analysts, oversee the workflow, ensuring compliance with the Underwriting guidelines, DBI policies and procedures.Using your experience, you will provide guidance and advice through ongoing mentoring throughout the team, further enhancing the internal capability to identify, manage and resolve underwriting issues.You develop and maintain the Underwriting guidelines, processes & audit control mechanisms within determined objectives.You have strong technical knowledge with the ability to identify trends, prepare and present internal briefs to Executive and Board, provide reporting, and identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to improve outcomes.You conduct reviews of builder data to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and to manage the resultant exception reporting and error rectification and DBI Distributor and builder data to gauge trends and identify opportunities for operational improvement and where appropriate, implement the improvements.You provide strategic advice to the Head of DBI Risk Assessments, regarding the effective resolution processes and operations of issues and the potential impacts on performance, business, and organisational objectives.You provide a lead role in developing and maintaining a positive relationship with DBI Distributors and builders.Who you work with You work closely with the DBI leadership team to provide advice regarding large builder eligibility assessments, exposure levels and mitigation strategies.You will work closely with the Builder Assessment team to peer review assessments and coach personnel to enhance department expertise.You communicate and consult regularly with the DBI nominated distributors regarding builder eligibility levels, financial information required and articulate decisions.You work closely with the Head of DBI Risk Assessments to actively manage and contribute to the development of new and existing services and business practices to build the value and contribution made to clients.You liaise with the Chief Officer, DBI to provide insights and recommendations for the development of the DBI portfolio.You work across the DBI Division including peers, the Claims and Service Delivery Teams, and other support service staff on relevant matters involving insolvencies and claims arising, and data analysis to improve underwriting outcomes.You build and maintain relationships with key external agencies such as VBA, CAV and DBDRV to share information and collaborate on strategic projects.You build and maintain effective relationships with third party service providers to effectively manage workflow and recovery opportunities.About you You have at least 5 year's experience in the insurance, trade credit or financial services sector especially in the handling of more technically complex matters.You have demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex financial statements, business tax returns and trust structures.You have highly developed understanding of finance / insurance product distribution within the commercial finance / insurance market including previous trade credit and property underwriting experience.You have highly developed decision-making skills with demonstrated capacity to assess potential business (and scheme related) risks and make timely and effective decisions consistent with the business control framework.You can deliver positive customer service outcomes in a regulated environment.You are a team player with the demonstrated ability to balance your work and that of others. You also take the initiative to resolve issues within your area of responsibility.You are a seasoned professional with advanced communication and interpersonal skills, proven empathetic client management / customer service experience and the ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes.You are resilient with the ability to work under pressure and manage and resolve conflict resolution in a timely and effective manner.Qualifications Your achievement of tertiary qualifications in accounting or finance is essential. Demonstrated experience within banking / insurance industry will be an advantage.You may also hold a professional membership with a risk management, Insurance, or relevant organisation.There are many reasons to work at VMIA, here is how we will support you:
