In 2009, the Colman Foundation approached the Victorian Government to become involved in the education of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including high migrant and refugee groups.
Doveton College has become a model for community-based, inclusive education across multiple sites in Victoria.
The College supports opportunities for all community members, including children, young people, and adults, with a focus on high-quality teaching and learning programs for ages 0-15, alongside additional learning opportunities for parents and the wider community.
With approximately 100 children in the Early Learning Centre, more than 600 students in Foundation to Year 9, and various community programs, Doveton College aims to provide a safe and secure environment where every student can learn and develop to their full potential.
Selection CriteriaSC1 Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum and exemplary teaching practice, including literacy and numeracy skills.
SC2 Expertise in implementing high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs.
SC3 Ability to monitor and assess student learning, using data to inform teaching practice.
SC4 Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills to engage collaboratively with students, colleagues, and the community.
SC5 Ability to model behaviors consistent with Department values and support professional learning.
RoleLearning Specialists are skilled classroom practitioners who deliver high-quality teaching and learning while also engaging in mentoring, coaching, and professional development activities.
They are expected to foster a child-safe environment and support the Doveton College mission to ensure every child succeeds.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities of the Learning Specialist include but are not limited to:
Demonstrating high-level expertise in teaching and learning practice.Leading the implementation of school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery.Providing professional learning and feedback to staff.Supporting the use of student data to inform teaching approaches.Mentoring and coaching teachers to enhance their practice.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
