Position : School Officer - Assisting Student Learning
Commencing Date : 20 January 2025 Tenure : Term Time, Permanent Classification : School Officer ASL - L3 Per Hourly Range : $33.20 - $34.61 per hour pending experience
Closing Date : Monday, 6 January 2025 unless filled prior Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan was established in 1979 and has as its foundational story the well-known "Journey to Emmaus" from the Gospel of Luke.
The theme of "journey" is one that is embraced by the college and is a fine metaphor for portraying the growth that all people experience in developing their spirituality, intellect, physical and social capabilities and wisdom.
About the role Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan is seeking a dedicated School Officer - Assisting Student Learning.
This role is a term time, permanent position completing 30 hours per week and will commence 20 January 2025 until 5 December 2025.
This role will require experience providing support for all areas of a student's needs including toileting, transfers and complex communication needs.
The School Officer – Assisting Student Learning (ASL) works under the direction and supervision of a teacher to provide learning and classroom support to all students including students who have identified additional needs to access and participate in schooling.
This role requires the School Officer to provide support to students with complex communication needs, engaging in communication in non-verbal formats.
Providing support in all areas of the students' needs including toileting, transfers and signs of medical attention required.
The School Officer is willing to work in a team to provide adequate support.
Typical Duties Providing support to individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in learning and school activitiesAssisting students (either individually or in groups) with specific learning needs including scribing, reading and providing feedback and observations to the classroom teacher(s)Supporting student engagement by reinforcing appropriate student behaviourProviding practical assistance to students in using classroom technologyPerforming administrative tasks of record maintenance, producing resources (e.g., printing, laminating etc.)
and other classroom administrative supportMaintaining a clean and tidy classroom environment / learning space including storage facilities and assisting in setting up appropriate classroom / learning spaceProviding support to students in relation to their physical needs (e.g., mobility support) and personal care (e.g., toileting, feeding)Mandatory Criteria Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland GovernmentCurrent Drivers LicenceAbility to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.Desirable Criteria No formal qualification is required; however, a Cert III in School Based Education Support or equivalent.For more information, please refer to the Position Description.
