We are deeply passionate about preparing young people to reach their full potential and become active and engaged global learners. AVHS provides evidence-based learning that maximises the independence of each person in an innovative and engaging inclusive learning environment. It is located in the Travancore Estate of Ascot Vale.The school offers excellent programs to promote the learning and independence skills of all students. Specialist classes include Physical Education, Music, Art, and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden Program.Selection CriteriaDeliver professional support service/s in a school/s, including the direct counselling for students with a range of mental health issues, applying sound theoretical knowledge and practical expertise.Plan and implement evidence-based intervention strategies for students with complex needs including collaborating with families, other professionals and agencies when appropriate, and manage the associated risks.Work collaboratively with the school to contribute to policies and operational practices that will guide the work of others, including other school wellbeing staff and teachers.Provide leadership and professional learning to others, such as teachers and other school wellbeing staff, to build the capacity of schools to improve students' learning and developmental outcomes.Liaise with other Department areas (including secondary school nurses and Student Support Services staff) and external service providers where necessary to provide support to students.Maintain professional competence and continued professional learning, including attending professional development activities throughout the year.Meet relevant policies and legislative requirements in relation to student health information privacy.Provide recommendations to the school leadership team in regard to future service delivery.Well developed communication skills when relating to students, staff, parents and outside agencies.RoleHours for this position are 8.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday during school terms. Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.ResponsibilitiesManage the delivery of support services to students, teachers, parents and other school clients.Ensure all external providers deliver the required service.In consultation with the Principal, teaching staff and a Speech Pathologist plan, develop, deliver and evaluate Occupational Therapy services to students with Intellectual Disabilities.Assist and participate in the development of policies, strategies, processes and procedures for the effective delivery of Occupational Therapy services to students.In line with the school's planning framework identify priorities for students through a Transdisciplinary approach.A demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and the capacity to reflect critically upon professional practice relevant to special schools.Supervise and participate in professional training of staff in areas pertinent to the role of an Occupational Therapist.Maintain appropriate records and provide written and oral reports as required.Who May ApplyOccupational Therapist applicants must hold a Bachelor or Masters in Occupational Therapy and must hold full registration with AHPRA.Applicant must hold a current WWCC (Working with Children Check).EEO AND OHS CommitmentApplicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction.
