Assistant Manager – Strategic Policy and Tech Futures The eSafety Commissioner's (eSafety) purpose is to help safeguard Australians at risk from online harms and to promote safer, more positive online experiences.
The Strategy, Engagement and Research Branch is focused on emerging issues, opportunities and challenges in the digital environment, including through policy, research, industry and international engagement, thought leadership and the delivery of strategic projects.
The Strategic Policy and Tech Futures Team promotes online safety by working to anticipate and address challenges to the regulation of online harms and by influencing strategic and regulatory policy directions.
We are seeking experienced, talented and enthusiastic public policy professionals to support regulatory policy, strategic direction and influence across government.
You will need to enjoy a challenge, be passionate about making a difference and be willing to work collaboratively and flexibly in an evolving and fast-paced environment.
Our ideal candidate has: strong policy skills, with expertise in online safety, technology and related areas experience representing online safety policy or regulatory matters in cross-government or public forums experience presenting complex information in a simple manner and briefing up to their manager critical and analytical thinking, with excellent verbal and written communication skills interest in shaping responses to sensitive and complex issues and keeping abreast of initiatives and research relating to online harms and the governance and regulation of digital environments strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across a range of sectors, including government, and experience explaining complex matters to a range of audiences the ability to respond positively in uncertain and high-pressure environments the ability to be flexible, agile and resilient in achieving objectives when confronted by competing demands and when faced with change demonstrated capacity to be self-driven and supportive team-player.
The key duties of the position include: In this role, you will be part of a dedicated and highly skilled team, which is focused on:
driving eSafety's analysis and anticipation of complex, cross-cutting existing, new and emerging technology issues contributing a strategic policy perspective to eSafety's work, including briefings, submissions, speeches and other communications conducting research and environmental scanning and producing high quality, robust and evidence-based advice on policy issues relating to eSafety's role and remit, including through eSafety's technology trends and challenges work stream engaging with a wide array of stakeholders and representing eSafety in key forums.
To be eligible for employment with eSafety, within the ACMA, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline level security clearance or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
Suitable candidates may be placed in a merit pool from this selection process and the pool may be used to fill similar ongoing or non-ongoing roles.
Non-ongoing vacancies filled from a merit pool may be offered as a specified term.
Applicants may have their application and assessment results shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies looking to fill similar roles.
