Solicitor, Legislation Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (flexibility may be available)The Role The Solicitor role sits within the Legislation Team in the Public and Administrative Law Unit. The successful applicant will undertake a wide variety of work across the Public and Administrative Law Unit, with primary responsibility for advising on and developing legislation, regulations and instruments.
The Solicitor will also undertake research and analysis of legal, legislative and policy issues, and will assist in the preparation of reports, briefs and correspondence on those issues. Legal issues are focused on the Department's portfolios and legislation and regulatory program. The role also involves advising on administrative law and public law matters for a diverse client group including regional staff, policy officers and administrative decision makers.
The Team The position of the Solicitor, Legislation forms a part of the Legal and Legislation Branch and sits within the Corporate Services Group.
The Corporate Services Group actively supports Ministers and the Department's portfolio groups to create the conditions for sustainable economic development and employment growth.
The Legal and Legislation Branch is the centralised provider of legal services to the Department. It supports the Department's strategic priorities by partnering with our client areas and delivering quality legal advice, dispute management, legislation development and commercial legal services.
About You The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
Experience as a government lawyer or in corporate or private practice.Knowledge and understanding of legislative processes, including Cabinet, Executive Council and Parliamentary processes and requirements.Knowledge of and experience in the principles and practice of public and administrative law with strong statutory interpretation skills to support legal advice.Further Information For a confidential discussion, please contact Rachelle Oberklaid, Managing Principal Solicitor, Legislation on ******.
