Location ProfileDoveton College is a unique, diverse and vibrant learning community located in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, in one of the most disadvantaged metropolitan regions of Australia.
Doveton College supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including high migrant and refugee groups.
The College focuses on providing high-quality teaching and learning programs across the 0 - 15 range and offers a variety of wrap-around educational and allied health support services.
Selection CriteriaKSC 1: Demonstrated highly developed skills when working with primary and secondary-aged children.
KSC 2: Demonstrated knowledge of trauma symptomology and treatment, child/adolescent development, family systems, attachment, abuse/neglect, cumulative harm and neglect.
KSC 3: Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
KSC 4: Experience in the initiation, development, and implementation of programs that foster resilience in children and young people.
KSC 5: Demonstrated experience in the facilitation of group programs.
RoleThe Student Wellbeing Youth Worker (0.6 EFT) at Doveton College supports students aged between Prep and Year 9 with targeted therapeutic goals to assist in their engagement in education.
An integral component of this role is to:
Group work facilitation and program developmentYouth EngagementMentoring and SupportThe Youth Worker also contributes to the development of high-quality interventions and programs that promote wellbeing and engagement throughout the College and will possess the following qualifications:
A relevant diploma or higher with a specialization in youth workAn ACWA-accredited diploma or higherA relevant qualification related to community services and comparable to AQF level 5 or higher.Additional skills required include:
Strong understanding of youth development principles and best practices.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently.Knowledge of community resources and the ability to connect youth with appropriate services.ResponsibilitiesSpecific Duties & Responsibilities: Group Facilitation:Plan, organize, and facilitate group activities aimed at promoting teamwork and personal growth among youth.Create a supportive atmosphere where participants feel comfortable expressing themselves.Contribute to the design and development of group programs.Assess the effectiveness of programs and suggest improvements.Youth Engagement:Build trusting relationships with youth participants.Develop strategies to actively involve young people in group activities.Provide goal-focused care to the mental health of students.Communicate with classroom teachers to identify strategies to benefit broader cohorts.Facilitate intensive support for students with specific needs.Mentorship and Support:Provide individualized support to youth.Collaborate with other youth workers to address the diverse needs of participants.Documentation and Reporting:Complete accurate case notes and prepare regular reports for program evaluation.
