System Engineer

BSA is seeking a skilled and motivated System Engineer to join our dynamic team.
09th October, 2024 Position Overview The role is responsible for the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of in-house ICT systems and overall integration and performance across broad cloud-based services and platforms that support core BSA organisational functions.
The role also ensures the BSA ICT infrastructure functions and services are resilient, secure, well designed, accessible, and are adaptable to support the BSA's changing needs.
A customer-focused service excellence approach is essential to ensure business and client requirements are delivered to high standards, agreed costs, and on time.
Position Responsibilities Service Management The Systems Engineer will ensure that all ITIL best practice processes for in house and 3rd party suppliers are implemented, relevant, and effective: Incident Management - customers have minimum service interruption and effective support.
Problem Management - Effective root cause analysis and elimination of recurring or multiple incidents, with timely workarounds in place when necessary.
Change Management - BAU and project changes thoroughly assessed via the CAB process before implementation for business impact and scheduled appropriately.
Configuration Management - Maintain a reliable database for asset tracking and relationships between configuration items valid and effective.
Release Management - Effective forward schedule plan with standard changes and project rollouts incorporated.
Capacity Management – Infrastructure resources monitored and remain within agreed tolerance for effective service delivery.
Availability Management – Maintenance windows agreed with the business, key services remain available when required.
Continuity Management – Single points of failure risk assessed, key risks eliminated, Disaster Recovery plans fit for purpose and fully tested.
Service Level Management – Suppliers fulfil their contracted SLA requirements and in house teams support the agreed OLA targets.
Service Delivery Integrate systems, servers, and cloud services, including Azure, M365, AWS, Salesforce, Directory Services, Confluence, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
Provide support and timely resolution of escalated issues and resolve directly or be part of troubleshooting teams to map, identify and resolve system issues.
Monitor, support, maintain and improve infrastructure including Video Conferencing, United Communication / Telephony, WAN and Network services across cloud and local services.
Design and perform infrastructure and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
Actively monitor cloud-based delivery services and work directly with cloud vendors including AWS, Azure and Salesforce to meet or exceed service availability and performance.
Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
Collaborate with technology and project staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Perform research including cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to support implementation decisions.
Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
Where appropriate, act as a key escalation contact for senior management for Infrastructure service issues, ensuring they receive an appropriate level of customer care and support.
To deputise for the Infrastructure Services Manager when required.
To undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time commensurate with the level and responsibilities of the role.
Information Security Apply the Information Security standards, procedures, and best practices are followed whilst performing the duties of the role, such as (and not limited to): Design and configuration of BSA ICT environment.
BAU operations, support, and maintenance of BSA ICT environment.
Proactively and immediately report and where practical rectify identified information security issues, problems, and vulnerabilities, in accordance with BSA standards and procedures.
Contribute your knowledge and expertise to the creation and updates of Information Security standards, procedures, and best practices.
Project & Service Improvement Ownership and Delivery Partner with the other Technology teams to support planning and successful delivery of related projects.
Responsible for reviewing and advising on technical strategy and tactical solutions.
Contribution to the technical roadmap and forward schedules for project implementation.
Analyse, propose, plan, and implement improvement Technology initiatives which will improve all or parts of BSA's Service Management capabilities.
Support and contribute to the service transition and support of new and enhanced infrastructure, system, and applications into BAU operations.
Maintain close links to key business stakeholders, especially Business Relationship Managers, turning feedback into action plans to drive innovation wherever possible.
Knowledge & Skills Proven knowledge and experience implementing and supporting: Information security frameworks such as Essential 8, NIST and ISO27001.
Infrastructure such as Servers, VMWare, Hyper-V.
Firewalls, Routers, Switching, Wireless Technologies, VLANs, Routing, IP Addressing, Subnetting.
Unified telecommunication solutions.
Mobile device management solutions.
Scripting and Automation technologies such as Power Shell, Cloud Formation, Bash Scripting.
A multitude of Microsoft Server Services and Technologies such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, NPS.
Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Share Point, Microsoft SCCM.
Unix/Linux (desirable).
Azure and AWS cloud infrastructure (desirable).
Cloud Security solutions and practices such as Cloudflare and Imperva (desirable).
Expert knowledge of computer and server components and fault diagnosis of servers, computers, and network-connected systems/devices.
Excellent troubleshooting skills.
High level of professional standards and conduct; a customer-focused service ethic.
Possess a high level of organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Have the ability to find solutions through creative thinking and collaboration.
Ability to work to deadlines and work effectively minimal direction and supervision.
