The Undergraduate Cadet – Sustainability Officer is part of Council's Education to Employment (E2E) program – designed to provide you with on-the-job experience, mentoring and support from highly skilled professionals, all while you complete a formal qualification.

Earn while you learn and kick-start your career with Lake Mac CouncilABOUT THE JOBThis Cadetship is a four-year program, where we will support you to complete a relevant undergraduate degree.
As the Cadet Sustainability Officer, you will gain technical knowledge, develop valuable skills and assist the Asset Optimisation team to achieve their objectives.You will gain hands-on experience in the development and implementation of projects to optimise Council's built and natural assets and infrastructure, with a focus on water, land, energy, and materials management.In this role, we will support you to:Assist in the development and implementation of projects to reduce Council's greenhouse gas emissionsInvestigate trends in environmental monitoring to support Council's asset optimisation practicesDevelop partnerships with stakeholders, internally and externally, to achieve improvements to Council assetsUndertake research, cost/benefit analysis and prepare business cases for CouncilGain a deep understanding of environmental and sustainability practicesOrganise and manage small projects including scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, contractors and stakeholdersAssist in the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and smart monitoring in Council operationsThe position is located at Council's Administration Building and involves travel to multiple areas within Lake Macquarie.
You will be rostered to work a 35 hour week around your University schedule, Monday to Friday, and occasionally on weekends with notice.To be eligible for this role you must have completed the first year of a relevant undergraduate university degree and be eligible for enrolment in at least your second year in 2025.
Graduate applicants are not eligible for this cadetship.WHAT WE OFFERReceive a wage whilst studying towards a qualification starting from $1077.23 per week plus 12 per cent superannuationPayment of university fees (including course and amenities fees) for the remainder of your related undergraduate studiesPayment of all course feesPaid time to study and attend compulsory classesYearly pay reviews and increases based on performance35 hour working week with nine-day fortnightFour weeks paid annual leaveBe mentored and work closely with a team of qualified professionals in a supportive, empowering, innovative and collaborative work environmentABOUT YOUWe are looking for people who:have completed the first year of a relevant degree in the fields of Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Mechatronics Engineering, Data Science or Environmental Science/Management (or similar)are enrolled in a relevant degree in the above fieldshave a passion for environmental sustainability and improving community built and natural assetsenjoy working in a team environment, and contribute to conversations and team objectiveshave a good attention to detail and effective writing and verbal skillshold a minimum of Provisional Driver's Licence.HOW TO APPLYIf this job sounds like you, we would love to hear from you
