Location ProfileCroxton School is a Department of Education & Training Special School located in Beaconsfield Parade, Northcote with additional campuses at Thornbury Primary School and Thornbury Learning Centre. Croxton School caters for students aged from 5 to 18 years and has a current enrolment of 130 students. The school provides a safe and secure learning environment that is challenging and success-oriented, valuing the individuality of all students and designing programs to meet their needs and interests.
The school actively supports a policy of inclusion by facilitating student access to neighboring mainstream primary schools and secondary colleges. The curriculum and organizational structure aim to prepare students for further education, independent living, and employment.
Enrolment at Croxton School is based on a child's educational needs and a recommendation of eligibility from a registered psychologist, which includes assessments for various diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum.

Selection CriteriaSC1: Demonstrated high level of knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Ability to respond to student learning needs.SC2: Ability to plan and implement high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.SC3: Ability to monitor and assess student learning, using data to inform teaching practice and provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement.SC4: High level of interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community.SC5: Behaviors and attitudes consistent with Department values, reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to improve teaching quality.RoleRange 2 classroom teachers play a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes, contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities. A critical component will focus on increasing staff knowledge about student learning and high-quality instruction.
Range 2 classroom teachers will be expected to:
Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students.Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers.Provide expert advice about content, processes, and strategies for individual and school professional learning.Supervise and train one or more student teachers.Assist staff in using student data to inform teaching approaches and improve student learning outcomes.ResponsibilitiesThe role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups and individual students.Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a curriculum area or program.Undertaking other classroom teaching-related and organizational duties as determined by the School Principal.Participating in parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions.Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
