Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package (WTP)
A consortium between Gamuda Australia and Laing O'Rourke has been awarded a contract to start tunnelling on the Sydney Metro West project.
With works well underway, the Senior Commercial Manager will play a crucial role in the management and oversight of commercial aspects across the project.
This position demands a strong understanding of contract law, financial management, and risk assessment within the civil engineering sector.
Reporting to the Commercial Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for maximising project profitability, managing contractual relationships, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Duties And Responsibilities
Developing and managing project forecast, monitoring expenditures, and implementing cost control measures to ensure financial targets are met.
Management of contractor disputes.
Work closely with the finance team to prepare month end whole of project forecasts and financial reports.
Mentor the Commercial Team on industry best practice and to encourage staff to develop their current skillset.
Implementing effective cost control processes and practices.
Evaluation of variation claims prepared by the commercial team prior to issuing assessments for review and approval under the delegation of authority.
Managing compliance and preparing reports on commercial performance of the project.
Working knowledge of the common law, state and federal regulations and statue as it relates to commercial issues.
Provide strategic guidance to project teams, fostering a collaborative and legally sound environment.
About You
Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying qualification.
Minimum 10 -15 years' commercial/ contract management experience in major large scale infrastructure projects.
Preferably in downstream commercial operations.
Strong understanding of principles of downstream contract management experience of contractor commercial management and stakeholder engagement within a tier one contractor.
Previous mega project Joint Venture experience is desirable.
Strong understanding of principles of subcontractor commercial management experience in a tier one civil contractor.
Estimating, quantity survey, procurement and contracts management.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Well-honed and able to manage competing deadlines.
Strong people management skills and must have demonstrable exposure to running large scale commercial teams - Up to 40 people.
About The Project
Construction includes the delivery of 9 kilometres of twin, metro rail tunnels between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park; excavation of new station boxes at Westmead and Parramatta; earthworks, utilities and connecting tunnels for a Maintenance and Stabling Facility at Clyde; a precast concrete segment factory at Eastern Creek; and a services facility, crossover structure and excavation to support tunnelling operations at Rosehill.
