The role of the Lawyer encompasses all aspects involved in representing clients charged with criminal offences, breaches of regulatory laws, traffic matters and proceedings under domestic violence legislation. The Lawyer must have a proficient, practical and operational knowledge of all areas necessary to fulfil the position and will be required to provide advice, take comprehensive instructions, engage with law enforcement and prosecutorial bodies, prepare all necessary steps to proceed to Sentence or Trial, and write persuasive and meaningful submissions where appropriate.
You will be expected to work both as part of a team and autonomously in a fast-paced environment, with extensive file exposure and opportunities for further development. We are a team who strongly believes in handling our clients' cases with empathy and a willingness to think creatively. This role requires a high level of interpersonal sensitivity, due to assisting clients with a wide range of criminal matters. The successful candidate will possess excellent legal skills with experience in criminal law, a strong attention to detail, effective communications skills and a commitment to social justice.
Responsibilities and Duties To provide legal advice and representation to our clients as a solicitor admitted to practice in one or more relevant jurisdictions; To devote the whole of your time and attention to our business during the Core Hours and at all other times reasonably necessary to perform your duties; To participate in our internal 'continuing legal education' program as reasonably required, including by attendance at CLE presentations and as presenter; To do all things reasonably necessary to comply with the continuing legal education requirements of each jurisdiction in which you are admitted to practice as a solicitor; To comply with all legislative requirements applicable from time to time in each jurisdiction in which you are admitted to practice as a solicitor; Any other duties as requested by the Legal Director. Work Experience and Skills Demonstrate a high level of professional service in all aspects of Criminal Law; Must be admitted as a Legal Practitioner or Barrister within the State of Queensland or holder of a current Practising Certificate; Hold a current Driver Licence and be willing to drive for work; Ideally have a minimum of two years' full-time experience, resilience for a range of complex work; A commitment to the principles of social justice; Work well under pressure with strong time management and organisational skills together with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and conflicting priorities simultaneously; Ability to run and manage own case files; Confident to handle legal challenges with good work ethic and desire to help clients; Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail; High level of computer literacy and accuracy; Ability to deal with sensitive matters with discretion (confidentially and tactfully where appropriate).
