This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peopleThe "No Gammin" – Koori Pathways Program is a professional development program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff employed in various entry level roles within the Courts, Tribunals and Service Delivery business area of the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).
We are recruiting now for the role of Sheriff's Officer and to build a talent pool to fill roles over the next 18 months in the Greater Sydney Metropolitan area and Regional NSW.
Participants will be employed by DCJ and be part of a training cohort enrolled in Certificate III in Business with intakes for the role of Sheriff's Officer scheduled for March and July 2025 .
Training is during business hours and delivered in face-to-face blocks and online.
Confirmation of Aboriginality is required prior to employment.
Salary: $70,694 - $76,857 pa + super and annual leave loading
Note: Commencing salary for a Probationary Sheriff's Officer is $64,619 pa + super and annual leave loading.
Following successful completion of on the job/mandatory training, and a 12 month probationary period, salary will then revert to $70,694 pa.
About The Role And What You Will DoThe NSW Sheriff's Office is a law enforcement, security and court agency that is responsible for protecting and serving the NSW Justice System.
Reporting to the Officer-in-Charge, NSW Sheriff's Officers have an exciting opportunity to directly support NSW residents in having a positive and just experience with the law.
Duties include:
Serving summonses and enforcing writs, warrants and orders issued out of the various courts.
Maintaining the security of court complexes and the safety of people attending these complexes.
Providing welfare and support to jurors and day-to-day support of courtroom operations.
This role is a public-facing customer service role, where strong communication, community engagement and creative thinking skills are valued and utilised.

Minimum RequirementsTo become a Sheriff's Officer, you must have all the following:
A current NSW Driver Licence A satisfactory National Criminal History Check A current First Aid certificate Be physically and medically fit Acknowledge that you must successfully complete recertification training every 2 years (or as amended from time to time) Ability to attend the 10 week Sheriff's Officer Recruit training course To learn more about the physical requirements of the role, please visit – Sheriff's Officer Careers.
Being a Sheriff's Officer is a position of very high trust, so you will need to meet the criteria of the job and undertake a series of pre-employment checks, a standard process for roles at DCJ.
