About the office The School of Education (Fremantle and Sydney) offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including initial teacher education for early childhood, primary and secondary teachers, and postgraduate programs in early childhood, leadership and management, curriculum, special learning needs and religious education.
The School of Philosophy and Theology offers programs that explore the Catholic intellectual tradition, but also encourages the learner to question the fundamental assumptions one may make about life itself.
About the role The Associate Dean Learning and Teaching is expected to provide leadership in learning and teaching within the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Theology and to collaborate across the University with the Associate Deans in the Faculties of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business and Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, Health Sciences and Physiotherapy in this endeavour.
This leadership role involves advancement of learning and teaching in the Faculty consistent with the University's mission, strategic direction, and identity as a Catholic higher education institution.
This role is responsible for the development, implementation, delivery and review of learning and teaching frameworks and associated strategies across the Faculty and requires the Associate Dean Learning and Teaching to lead, guide and coach a dispersed team of Faculty staff in this regard.
The role also involves close collaboration with the PVC Student Engagement to ensure there is connection with associated strategies to maintain UNDA's focus in this area.
Likewise a connection with the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Learning & Teaching Office is involved to link in with broader Learning and Teaching expertise, to ensure that Learning and Teaching Frameworks support academic programs, student experience and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and expertise to the Faculty in learning and teaching to ensure: Effective development and implementation of the annual Faculty Plan from a learning and teaching perspective The design, delivery and review of high-quality course and assessment design development, delivery and review, aligned with pedagogical principals Best practice learning and teaching strategies and plans Effective peer review and moderation practices A focus on benchmarking and continuous improvement.
This includes: Delivering the University performance indicators in learning and teaching strategies Promoting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and associated research.
Promote expert advice for the Faculty and build strong relationships with stakeholders such as Catholic institutions, Government and private school sectors, Registration and/or accreditation authorities, professional and policy influencers and wider community partners to ensure the Faculty operates and leverage these relationships to help drive key strategic and operational learning and teaching initiatives consistent with the Objects.
Supporting the Executive Dean and National Heads of School to embed and further the scholarship of learning and teaching to support academic programs that meet stakeholder needs is involved.
In collaboration with the Faculty leadership group, lead the School in high level academic and research expertise, fostering a collegiate environment and strong sense of community amongst staff and students and relevant external bodies to promote a highly regarded international and national recognised professional institution with expertise in learning and teaching, attuned to future higher education and work demands Qualifications, skills & experience In addition to the requirements for the Academic Classification Level (Level D) that underpin this role.
Excellent academic and research qualifications and a recognised record of scholarly achievement.
Successful track record of higher education leadership and management.
Demonstrated track record in the scholarship of learning and teaching, with a focus on best practice pedagogies, digital approaches and related industry engagement.
Excellent grasp of the tertiary education sector, and sound appreciation of the demands of managing and flourishing a growing School in a rapidly changing environment.
Strong leadership and management skills and a successful track record in the development, implementation, and evaluation of organisational change in a national, multi campus and multi state context, demonstrating commercial acumen and alignment to performance goals.
