We have a highly engaged, diverse, and collaborative workforce that is unified by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.About the Department:The Infant Child & Youth Mental Health Service (ICYMHS) services the north-eastern catchment of Melbourne Metropolitan (local government areas of Banyule, Nillumbik, Darebin, Whittlesea, Yarra, and Boroondara).
Young people eligible for the service are 0 to 25 years with a current shift towards Royal Commission recommendations.The Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry Unit (AIPU) is an 11-bed unit that provides assessment and treatment to teenagers who require more intensive treatment than can be offered in an outpatient setting.
The unit has a small High Dependency area and a seclusion room, covering the six LGA serviced by Austin ICYMHS and the rural regions serviced by Bendigo ICYMHS and Mildura ICYMHS.The Youth Brief Intervention Service (YBIS) provides brief family and system-focused support for youth (12 - 25 years) including primary and secondary consultation, family and system-focused therapeutic work, in conjunction with other community agencies such as headspace, YSAS, Child Protection, or Youth Justice in the Banyule, Boroondara, Yarra, Darebin, Nillumbik, or Whittlesea areas.About the role:Position available: 10th February 2025 ongoingAs the Consultant Psychiatrist, Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry Unit/Youth Brief Intervention Service, you will provide comprehensive and high-quality evidence-based psychiatric services to young consumers and their families or support networks in the Inpatient and Youth Brief Intervention Service Teams.About you:To be successful in this role you must:Be a registered Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent postgraduate specialist qualification.Possess a RANZCP Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or equivalent.
Psychiatrists with significant experience in Youth Psychiatry will be considered for the role focused on young people aged 12-25 years.Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC Check) in compliance with the Working with Children Act 2005.Have detailed knowledge of the triage and access systems to tertiary mental health services.Demonstrate experience with a variety of liaison psychiatry settings, including inreach to the emergency department where indicated.Please note you will be required to attach copies of the following to your online application:Undergraduate Qualification Certificate (Medical Degree)Fellowship Certificate (Specialist Medical College)Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)Current Medical Indemnity CertificateProof of Identification (current passport or Australian driver's licence)Working with Children's Check CardWorking at Austin Health means enjoying a strong sense of purpose and engaging in meaningful work every day.
