About the role Mater's Pathology Department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Anatomical Pathology Scientist.
This is a Fixed Term contract position covering maternity leave. The successful applicant will be offered a 10 month Fixed term contract working 38 hours a week. Mater Pathology is the oldest pathology service in the Brisbane and surrounding areas.
Initially established and supervised by the Sisters of Mercy in 1919, Mater Pathology has grown into a multi-faceted and technologically advanced laboratory service serving patients, doctors, and hospitals.
Key Responsibilities: This position requires a high-level scientific knowledge, skills, and an appropriate level of experience to provide operational support for routine and complex testing within the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory and participate in the daily workflow of the rostered work area team.Demonstrate knowledge, expertise, and skill, commensurate with experience, in the delivery of scientific services within the relevant specialties of Anatomical Pathology.Knowledge of the criticality of protocols of specific requirements of embedding, microtomy, primary and reflex staining protocols.Participate in general Anatomic Pathology duties may be required, including general maintenance, case assembly, and attendance at frozen sections.Impart and learn scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities and contributing to Laboratory meetings.Actively participate in Histology discipline working cooperatively and communicating effectively within the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.Participate in the quality control processes expected of Anatomic Pathology.About you A Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification with units in histology and/or anatomy.The ideal candidate will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as an effective team member.
You should also have excellent organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and work accurately and efficiently.Mater is Queensland's largest and most innovative not-for-profit healthcare service, providing care for almost 700,000 patients a year across a network of 11 hospitals.
