About the role As the Chief Governance and Risk Officer you will provide strategic leadership, oversight and direction of the City of Parramatta Council's governance, legal and risk functions, to ensure Council effectively meets legislative, regulatory and compliance requirements.
This role is part of the Senior Leadership team of Council and will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the organisation-wide governance, organisational policy, safeguarding, risk, assurance and compliance frameworks and ensuring the provision of high quality in house legal services.
Key Responsibilities: Ensure compliance and delegations frameworks support the effective governance of Council and support meeting all statutory requirements.Lead the development and implementation of Risk Management Framework and a strategy to develop the risk maturity of the organisation.Lead the development and implementation of a Compliance Framework.Provide high quality in-house legal service including legal advice in relation to regulatory compliance, property, business structure and acquisitions, employment litigation, corporate governance and privacy.Oversee the internal audit function, including reporting to the Audit, Risk and Insurance Committee.Deliver GIPA and privacy functions to Council.Oversee Council's safeguarding function.Ensure the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan and Community Strategic Plan within their team.About You We are looking for someone with:
Degree qualification/s in legal, governance and/or risk management (or related field).Extensive experience (7+ years) in legal, governance risk management (or related) in a large complex organisation with a proven track record of achieving strategic objectives.Demonstrated (5+ years) experience in leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams.Proven track record at a senior/ executive level in governance, legal, risk management or compliance planning and managing projects.Extensive experience working with an Executive Team and Councillors or similar governance structure.Exceptional ability to communicate, build relationships and influence others with an engaging approach and technique.Excellent communication and presentation skills including the ability to develop reports, briefing papers and other documents accurately and in short time frames.Analytical approach to interpreting data and communicating insights.Advanced problem solving and decision-making ability, including confidence working with leaders to resolve high priority, and often sensitive and complex issues and conflict.What's on offer We are offering an attractive remuneration from $212,961.19 to $236,198.28 plus 11.5% superannuation.
