We work with families, communities and other organisations to deliver trauma informed, equitable, culturally safe and integrated services based on evidence and practice wisdom.About the ProgramMaryknoll Therapeutic Community (MTC) is a 77-bed facility that provides a safe space for residents to recover and heal by exploring their own life experiences and learning from the experience and insights of others.About the roleAn exciting opportunity has risen for AOD Peer Worker to join our team at our Maryknoll Therapeutic Community located at Nar Nar Goon , Victoria (10 minutes from Pakenham).As our AOD Peer Worker you will help residents in the AOD withdrawal program by sharing your lived experience of treatment and recovery from substance use.
We recognise the strength, courage, and unique perspective of people with lived experience of alcohol and other drugs and believe peer support is a powerful part of the recovery journey.Draw upon your own lived experience to help others and be supported by a skilled, multidiscipline team that provide a full suite of AOD treatments.Assist with delivery of program material from the perspective of peer with a successful treatment experience.Provide support and encouragement primarily to residents, and to people on the waitlist, the preadmission group, as well as clients in aftercare.Provide basic support to clients according to established treatment plans.Contribute to a positive work environment by promoting integrity and professionalism and presenting a professional image likely to build safety, confidence, and trust.Provide support for offsite visits.What we're looking forLived alcohol and drug experience, with preference to participating in treatment at an accredited Therapeutic Community.A minimum of 2 years successfully engaged in work, volunteering or study after graduating from an AOD residential program or other similar treatment service.High level of interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening skills and clear speaking skills, with an ability to tailor communicate style to suit the diversity of residents.Ability to maintain clear boundaries and engage in self-reflection.Ideally completed SHARC Peer Training.The teamWe're a friendly, dynamic bunch of individuals that value diversity, continuous improvement and collaboration.
