The Airports Branch oversees and provides government policy and regulatory advice on matters relating to 21 operational federal leased airports across Australia.
The Branch undertakes effective and efficient regulation of federal leased airports to ensure the operations of airports, as nationally significant infrastructure, remain in the public interest.The Airport Building Control Section is responsible for the administration of building and construction activities at federal leased airports in line with the Airports Act 1996 and the Airport (Building Control) Regulations 1996, including management of a network of external Airport Building Controllers (ABCs) around Australia.Officers in the section exercise regulatory functions under the Airports Acts 1996, the Airports (Building Control) Regulations 1996, monitor the application of the Act and ensure compliance.
The Airport Building Control section coordinates the national network of contracted ABCs and assists them in undertaking their duties by being the point of contact within the department.The key duties of the position include:What will you do?The Airport Building Control Coordinator typically is the primary point of contact for the ABC Helpdesk and engages directly with the ABCs to problem solve and troubleshoot any regulatory issues as well as monitoring the system administration of the online system (Airport Building Control Online – ABCO) which all building activity applications and approvals are processed.We seek candidates with demonstrated ability in project management, compliance/assurance, and interpreting legislation who have strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills to support the regulatory functions of the section.
Candidates will have the opportunity to engage with people across the department, other Government agencies, and externally with Airport Lessee Companies (ALCs) and other stakeholders while fulfilling their regulatory functions.As an Airport Building Control Coordinator, you can expect to:Support the regulatory oversight of, and advise on, building certification requirements, procedures and compliance at federal leased airports.Apply critical and strategic thinking in the review of legislation, regulations, data and stakeholder engagement to inform policy development and decisions.Oversight and manage the ABC onboarding and Statutory Appointment process.Ensure that Airport Building Control suppliers are compliant with any contractual, regulatory, or legislative obligations.Coordinate and chair network-wide teleconferences that provide the department an opportunity to directly liaise with the ABC network.Support the administration of various legislation, including (but not limited to): Airports Act 1996, Airports (Building Control) Regulations 1996, Airports Regulations 2024, and Airports (Environmental Protection) Regulations 1997.Who are we looking for?The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the APS4 Work Level Standards.A role in the Airport Building Control section offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of challenges facing the aviation sector in a collegiate and collaborative workplace.
Project management and stakeholder engagement are a core component of the role and offers excellent opportunities to gain experience in collaborating with departmental staff and external stakeholders.Staff working at the APS4 level are required to have functional expertise that contributes to team goals and be able to provide advice to more senior staff using policy and practice as a guide.
Where candidates don't have the information available, they would be required to be able to use research methods to remain informed and up to date.
Candidates would be able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders on moderately complex operational matters, and resolve enquiries by providing information whilst building a rapport and maintaining the relationship.As this role is focused on service delivery, candidates are required to demonstrate the ability to investigate and manage referred enquiries and undertake assessments and review decisions using sound judgement, legislative interpretation, and the ability to clearly communicate with stakeholders.Eligibility requirementsEmployment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:Citizenship: Candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department's preferred medical provider.Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at the Baseline Clearance Level.
You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
