Our Business Controls and Monitoring (BCM) team is part of the Chief Operating Office (COO) in Risk Division and is accountable for supporting the function in managing their risk. We provide the specialist knowledge in identifying and managing risk in the business. A BCM role is one that is primarily responsible for risk support for the business, with deep subject matter expertise as a pinnacle of partnering for risk activities.
As a Senior Manager BCM, you will be responsible for supporting the risk-in-change across multiple new and expanding projects within the Risk Division, supporting UNITE transformation activities. With current programs in place to improve management and use of data in regulatory reporting and the group wide technology simplification, as Senior Manager, you will provide BCM support across delivery and delivered risks, across program and workstream outcomes.
With dedicated risk-in-change capability and being year 1 of a 4-year transformation program, you will be agile in your ability to support lines of business with the simplification focus of systems, data management and processing of data which will ultimately be owned by risk.
With the extensive scope of these multi-year programs and the forthcoming pipelines of work, you may be involved in various business streams that support core risk management strategies. This includes integrating risk-in-change practices in areas such as Financial Crime , Deputy CRO , and Non-Financial Risk.
Reporting to the Head of Business Controls & Monitoring, Risk in Change, you may play to your strengths in the delivery of strategic data assets and data capabilities, technology risk, or your breadth of risk strategy capabilities by partnering with senior stakeholders on all matters of risk and control whilst balancing commercial and customer needs.
Day to day, your responsibilities will include: Supporting programs through the provision of strategic and technical risk advice across business case development, solution design, build, testing, and implementationProviding risk support for delivery of strategic data assets and data capabilities within the Risk DivisionDeveloping strong relationships with line 1 and line 2 risk and compliance specialists' group wide and facilitating workshops with these stakeholdersEscalating and presenting risk information at Program governance forumsContributing risk in change thematic insights into the broader Risk Function and ensuring continuous risk in change practice development and improvements to enable quality risk assessments for projects. This role will provide you with broad exposure to risk transformation projects across the Westpac Group, elevating your profile amongst the risk community and deepening your subject matter expertise within stakeholder groups. The role would be suited to a well tenured risk professional, with 8+ years' experience, and someone who naturally enjoys coaching and bringing others on the journey of change management, building enhanced risk awareness, and uplift in user capability.
You'll be set up for success in your transition to the role. With a current team of 32 Sydney based colleagues, you'll collaborate in person two days a week in our Kent Street office, with Wednesdays and Thursdays being ideal days to re-group and connect with project groups and stream stakeholders.

What do I need?
The ideal candidate should be adept at managing multiple and competing stakeholder interests and possess experience in supporting technology risk transformation and compliance initiatives within a complex regulatory environment. Further advantageous qualities and experience includes:
Experience managing risks on projects, including both delivery risk and delivered riskExperience in risk management within tech, data, or other non-financial risk' sectors (all would be desirable)Ability to articulate and engage on risk matters, with the confidence to voice opinions and hold the lineUnderstanding of how data is managed through technology and data processesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsA strong and practical understanding of project management methodologies, such as Agile, coupled with a pragmatic approach to problem solvingExperience in operational risk, compliance, audit, or advisory roles perhaps from a Big 4 consulting, or other regulated environment, domestic or internationalProficiency with project software and toolsRelevant qualifications (risk, compliance or business-related) What's it like to work there?
