Overview of the role
The Marketplace Director oversees and coordinates the delivery across a team of non-biddable experts.
You will manage all operations, from ensuring quality implementation to improving operational efficiency & delivery, to acting as a senior consultant to clients for their activation and performance management.
This role includes taking accountability for talent management, including reviews, training, coaching, performance management, and recruitment.
You will work closely with other directors to support national initiatives designed to improve key indicators.
The scope of Marketplace incorporates traditional media (TV, Cinema, Out of Home, Radio, Print, Digital Video and Display) and the online evolution of traditional media (Addressable TV, Programmatic OOH, Music Streaming and Podcasting).
This role encompasses people management within the broader Activation Team including recruitment, fostering key talent, reviews, training, coaching and performance management.
Key Relationships
Internal Departments: Fostering deep trust and understanding with agency client, strategic and performance teams, Client Partners, Comm's Planners and HR.
Media Owners: Establish strong relationships with our media partners at a Group Sales Manager level and Sales Executive level.
Clients: Establish a deep understanding of our client's business and develop strong relationships with key client contacts.
Activation Team Members: Drive high functioning deliverables and culture in your immediate team.
Collaborating closely with activation teams.
Role responsibilities
Oversee team workflow, dealing with issues as they arise to a satisfactory resolution.
Ensure your team is adequately trained, resourced, motivated, and engaged to deliver on campaign requirements.
Conduct regular 1-2-1s with your team, providing leadership and always modelling our behaviours.
Responsible for overseeing workflow between all members of the team and escalating any issues.
Help define and deliver best practice, supervising your team's output and intervening where necessary.
Contribute to product development and direction, leveraging vendors and partners to achieve this.
Anticipate future challenges, trends, and changes to both your clients and our industry, proactively forming a view of strategies to mitigate risk and create opportunity.
Lead key client relationships as it relates to implementation & buying, ensuring team output is to the required standard.
Elevates both team and client thinking through expert opinion and leadership, including tackling sensitive conversations with confidence.
Establish an understanding of CDT challenges, objectives & initiatives.
Clear understanding of the in-scope services of your clients and the process for completing work above and beyond.
Support Client Pitches as subject matter expert on non-biddable and Digital IO channels.
Be responsible across all campaign tracking and reconciliation requirements (including KPI delivery).
Identify commercial opportunities with the ability to make a compelling case for their inclusion.
Maintain and comply with finance processes ensuring accuracy monthly.
Adherence to GroupM policies and procedures.
Supporting Marketplace team in driving accurate inputs for the monthly forecasting across biddable channels, by client.
Collaborating with the CDT on investment decisions, audits, and forecasting.
The experience you will need to perform this role
Experience leading a team.
Passion for Implementation Planning and Buying, with extensive agency experience.
Strong, up to date, media landscape knowledge (confidently able to articulate macroeconomic and consumer trends and forecast challenges/opportunities for clients).
Highly skilled communicator, with excellent presentation skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the patience to examine detail and create solutions.
Collaborative and astute - able to build trust and respect within a network.
First class negotiation skills.
Results Driven.
Passionate about delivering business results for clients, with the ability to identify and clearly articulate what's working and why.
