Applications are invited for the ongoing full-time position of Assistant Adviser in the office of Senator Tony Sheldon, based in Sydney or Canberra.
The Special Envoy provides regular advice to the Minister for Emergency Management on disaster recovery matters.
The Special Envoy also provides advice and assistance to communities on accessing government services and recovery support.
The Assistant Adviser will contribute to all aspects of this.
The position would suit a highly motivated person, preferably with several years of experience in emergency management, disaster recovery or related fields.
Tertiary education qualifications in the field are desirable.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Liaising with stakeholders as directed to identify and respond to key issuesProviding expert and timely advice to the Special Envoy on policy issuesProvide input into communications and political advice as requiredWorking closely with the office of the Minister for Emergency ManagementAnalysis and prepare reports, papers, policy statements, briefing notes and statistical information on policy and related mattersHigh-level planning and logistics skills for extensive travel across Australia with the Special EnvoyWorking outside of normal business hours as requiredOther duties as directedApplicants for this position should possess: Strong analytical skillsCommunication and stakeholder management skillsGood judgement and strong evaluation capabilitiesKnowledge of government and parliamentary processes is an advantageAbility to function under pressure and produce work to tight deadlines.Employment conditions The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023, which include:
A commencing salary between $84,789 and $101,701 per annum will be negotiated with the successful applicant commensurate with relevant skills and experience, in addition to a personal staff allowance of $31,702.Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).An employer contribution of 15.4% superannuation.A probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
