About the Role Reporting to the Manager – Road Assets Design, the Manager - Pavement Design sits within the Assets and Engineering division and is responsible for leading a team of technical experts providing exceptional pavement-related design and expert advice to stakeholders within the Department of Transport and Planning.
The role will use creative and advanced problem-solving to resolve complex technical issues. Developing and maintaining effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, representing the department at key project meetings, and contributing to the discipline Community of Practice will be important components of this role.
The role's responsibilities encompass leading a team to deliver structural design of flexible and rigid pavements, rehabilitation treatments, structural overlays using mechanistic procedures, design of stabilisation treatments, pavement and surfacing condition, and selection of surfacing treatments.

Pavement Design Delivery – The Manager - Pavement Design ensures that exceptional and highly specialised high-quality pavement design services are delivered on time and within budget.Improved Pavement Design Capability – The incumbent provides leadership, guidance, and mentoring to uplift the technical capability in the pavement discipline, resulting in enhanced technical capability in relation to pavement design.Customer Focus – The incumbent actively and effectively contributes to, and promotes a culture that is customer-focused.Trusted Advisor – Stakeholders trust and respect the advice and recommendations provided by the incumbent, who is considered a trusted advisor and contributes to a Community of Practice for pavement-related matters.Key Selection Criteria The DTP is seeking a skilled professional with strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, capable of delivering effective solutions with tangible business outcomes. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in project delivery, engineering, and managing people, alongside a customer-focused mindset and a commitment to service excellence. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential, as is a dedication to creating a positive community impact through effective strategy and outcomes.
