About this exciting opportunity This position is in the RRAP team at AIMS and you will lead studies on intervention risks and pathways of priority reef intervention, requiring an understanding of coral reef systems. A full understanding and evaluation of intervention risks is a key component of RRAP and will be evaluated from ecological, social, cultural, and heritage angles. You will work in a small team to deliver intervention risk assessments and publications. You will bring research skills, knowledge, project management and coordination experience, communication and interpersonal skills and support the running of an expert group process on the potential risks associated with reef interventions.
You will assist AIMS, the leadership team and the multi-disciplinary group of top experts in delivering risk management work across RRAP and associated AIMS projects, supporting all aspects of the expert group process including outputs, and play a key role in developing and managing projects and intervention risk studies. This will include working on the following:
Collaborate with the Risk team and RRAP researchers/experts and others including AIMS staff, including work to consolidate, advance and document the conceptual understanding of intervention risks/outcomesDeveloping and review of a broad range of content to prepare materials for and with RRAP, AIMS and our expert group, which will include written materials (e.g. reports, publications) and communicationsConducting background research, preparing scientific outputs and delivering special projectsProject manage, lead and collaborate on risk studies and activities by teams of experts and stakeholdersAssist with the full range of tasks to support the team's objectives and the expert group process including logistics and coordination functions, and being a liaison point on related mattersAssisting in developing and running workshops and meetings with both large and small groupsAbout you You will have an interest in and understanding of challenges facing the Great Barrier Reef and its conservation. You will draw on your expertise and tertiary qualifications in science or related field to support your collation and comprehension of the complex materials you are reviewing, preparing and writing for papers, publications and communication. Your well-developed written and verbal communication skills, and collaborative style of working to effectively communicate with various key stakeholders will be critical in this role. You will be confident and competent to plan, coordinate and run workshops, committees or group activities and meetings.
Experience in the research, synthesis and translation of large amount of information across research disciplines and sharing this in a balanced manner is highly desirable. Experience in coral reef interventions, assessing and managing risk and/or gaining social and regulatory licence is not essential for the role but would be welcome.
