Our Software and DevSecOps Platform Engineering teams are the brains behind Australia's number one banking app the Commbank app, Netbank, Cardless Cash, Comm Sec Pocket and Spend Tracker and the tools and infrastructure they rely on.

The mission of our Quality Engineering and Testing practice is "confidence engineered into every product", so we're taking the approach of team ownership of quality, backed by engineering mindset and techniques.

As a Staff Quality Engineer, you'll be a key member of our Engineer Quality crew, helping us transform group capability by educating and influencing new ways of working including Shift Left, DevSecOps, Full Cycle Engineering, implementing continuous automation testing, and supporting the Engineering Platform integration of CI/CD tools.

Using your deep expertise in quality software engineering, you'll give valuable input to the design and development of features, train our software engineers in specific testing skills, and ensure they have the right tools, data and environments for efficient automation testing during the build.
With your broad range of architecture, software and platform engineering knowledge you'll implement strategies to address more complex efficiency across the group.

We support our people with the flexibility to balance where work is done with at least half your time each month connecting in office.

Are senior technology leaders with expertise in quality engineering and are passionate about solving intricate problems to further improve speed to production whilst implementing more efficiency, reliability and security into the design, build and deployment of applications.
Ideally, coming from a large tech company, or similar, with a desire to support us on this transformation will give you the opportunity to lead change, overcome challenges and drive software world class best practices.

Have a thorough understanding of available DevOps tooling, such as software or tooling for the CI/CD pipeline.Proactively collaborates with others to resolve service issues and reduce operational activities by automating repetitive tasks.Have software development experience and a willingness to learn and jump into the deep-end of technical problems.Have pragmatic approach towards SDLC processes with a bias towards velocity and security.Proven ability to catch defects early in the lifecycle and reduced dependency on expensive UI or e2e tests.Encourages risk-taking and constructively challenges the status quo while influencing stakeholders and building fit for purpose automation frameworks.Have a 'you build it and you run it' mindset and continue focusing on delivering top quality services to end-users.Experience in shaping overall application architecture to enable better quality practices and automation.Effectively communicate engineering practice standards and consistent ways of working across squads and CBA that align to global best practice.Automated verification in production. We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks.
We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

Test Automation, testing frameworks and optimising test processes in a software environment is essential.Mocking, service virtualisation and/or contract testing.Expertise with CI/CD pipeline tooling - GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Playwright, Cypress, Cucumber, Gherkin, Selenium, Blazemeter.TDD/BDD or model based testing experience.Automated environment and test data provisioning.Demonstrated experience in shifting testing left.Automated evidence generation and reporting.Proficient with modern languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar is a plus.Familiarity with Containerisation and public cloud engineering - AWS preferred.Code reviews, policy configurations.Networking concepts such as zones, load balancing, whitelisting, and proxies Infra as code.
