The Opportunity
As a Family Liaison Officer, you will work directly with clients/families that are enrolled and attending Nambour State College who are experiencing multiple and/or complex needs to reduce harm or risk of harm to children and young people, prevent crises or problems within families from arising or escalating, and stabilise or maintain family wellbeing.
This will be achieved through delivering supports to improve the wellbeing and safety of children, young people, and their families; building the capacity of families to nurture, care for, and protect their children; providing linkages to local universal support services/community groups to enable families to access the resources to solve problems and make positive choices and changes; and preventing entry or re-entry to the statutory child protection system.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Nambour Family Supports program at Nambour State College, under the guidance of the Program Coordinator.
The safety of the client and/or their children is paramount.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Complete the primary operational tasks and manage the client's journey through the service with a client-centred approach.
Receive referrals, undertake assessments of clients' needs, coordinate case management, and regularly review case plans through liaison and collaboration with the Program Coordinator.
Provide information, advocacy, and support using a collaborative case plan model to at-risk children and their families in accordance with the requirements of the Service Agreement with the Department of Communities.
Develop and present individual and group life skills and personal development programs for children and their families who have complex needs.
Provide additional support to clients as required, including transport to school, medical appointments, and informal counselling.
Please respond to each of the following criteria in your cover letter:
Minimum qualification of relevant Diploma in human services fields (e.g., Mental health, Family and Youth intervention, Counselling, Family therapy, Community Services).
Minimum 3 years of extensive experience working with children, young people, and families with complex needs.
Experience supporting clients facing significant and varying complex challenges, with knowledge of relevant theory and legislation, supported by a practice approach that aligns with the Strengthening Families, Protecting Children framework and broad-based safety and risk assessment skills including the application of a Safe & Together model of practice.
Clear understanding of the current and relevant legislation, which may include the Child Protection Act, and ability to acquire understanding of all relevant legislations relating to the program.
Ability to produce professional written documentation.
Extensive experience in the delivery of client-centred case management, ensuring the wants and needs of the client are at the forefront of supports and demonstrated ability in applying such principles.
High understanding of the complex needs of clients who may have experienced trauma, may be facing or experiencing homelessness, are engaged in child protective issues, and/or family support approaches.
Understanding of issues facing children and families with complex family dynamics and needs.
Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with clients, which will involve having highly developed interpersonal skills and strong professional boundaries, which are an important aspect of working with complex children, young people, and families.
Other Requirements
Successful applicants will also need to hold a 'C' class Open driver licence, State Working with Children Check, and hold or be eligible to apply for a Licensed Care Suitability Check issued by the QLD Department of Child Safety, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs.
