The Role Due to our healthy pipeline of projects, we are looking to hire an experienced Power Systems Engineer at all levels to complement our highly skilled design and engineering team at our Burswood office, close to the Perth CBD reporting to the Manager – Grid & Energy.
The primary purpose of this role is to drive and deliver safe and sustainable electrical engineering for mining sector and utility projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
Ensure engineering design is compliant with client requirements and all relevant national and international standards.Acts as a subject matter expert regarding electrical engineering activities.Interacts closely with internal teams to ensure that project needs, and objectives are met.Coordinate all activities within the engineering discipline stream for the project.Ensure coordination with other disciplines is effective for each project.Review, check and approve all engineering deliverables produced by the discipline stream (QA/QC).Ensure appropriate engineering methods are applied by all within the project discipline stream.Prepare technical queries and carry out any vendor data reviews.Ensure all design engineering procedures are followed while doing the engineering.Provide guidance and advice to all within the project discipline stream.Develop methods and procedures to improve efficiency of the discipline stream.Participate in engineering, design, and construction review processes.Carry out detailed design, verify calculations and check design details completed by others.Interpret plans, specifications, drawings, and documents related to engineering and construction.Power System Modelling and Analysis Studies.Prepare client quotations for specific field and assist in proposal estimates for broader scope jobs.Position may require travel to project sites and/or client premises.About You Bachelor of Engineering (Science) with experience in utilities, construction and/or resources industry.Apply flexibility in managing competing demands, including working hours outside of core business hours, as required.Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite of products, key focus on Excel and Word.Demonstrated experience in the role with a focus on design engineering and optimisation.Sound knowledge of engineering standards and client specifications.Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organisation and in all forms.High level of customer relationship management, communication and interpersonal skills.Experience with working on remote sites as the position requires travel to project sites and/or client premises.Demonstrate proficiency with key industry power systems software (DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, SKM PTW, CDEGS, CYMCAP, Cableizer, etc).Senior/Lead level applicants will require the following additional experience: Develop detailed models for dynamic & electromagnetic studies.Carry out planning studies for transmission and distribution networks.Undertake specialised power system studies (RMS & EMT), including insulation coordination and transformer energisation.Mentor, coach and develop junior engineers.CPEng, NER or equivalent professional registrations (desirable).Candidates must be able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone.
