About the roleThe Dispute Resolution (DR) practice group provides specialist expertise in resolving and managing disputes across many areas of law.
It acts for regulatory agencies in enforcing the law, protects sensitive information from disclosure, defends government decisions and responds to claims made against the Commonwealth.
It is often involved in the largest and most sensitive matters affecting the Australian Government.
The role of the Legal Support Manager is varied and challenging.
The Canberra and Sydney DR legal support teams both have approximately 15 support staff who provide legal administrative support to approximately 80 lawyers.
As the manager of the legal support team, you will work closely with the National Coordinator, Legal Support, National Managers and members of the leadership team to supervise and manage members of the team and manage support team resourcing.
The Legal Support Manager is supported by Senior Legal Assistants who have specialist expertise and assist with co-ordination of work across the office.
As the Legal Support Manager, you will have: substantial experience in the management, recruitment, training, supervision and development of diverse teamsexperience in managing the provision of high-quality administrative support in a professional environment and in the development of efficient administrative work practicesexcellent professional and business judgment and exceptional interpersonal, communication and persuasive skillssound knowledge and understanding of all aspects of legal support tasks and provide high quality legal or administrative assistance to lawyers and/or senior management as and when requiredcapacity to think strategically about, and direct continuous improvement in, the provision of legal supporta commitment to championing and supporting new systems, practices and processesa record of modelling exemplary professional behaviour.About youThis role will suit an experienced and highly efficient professional legal manager who ideally has:
leadership, training, development and recruitment experienceat least 5 years' experience providing high quality legal support to multiple lawyers in a fast-paced legal practiceexcellent client service skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage key relationships with internal and external clientsdemonstrated ability to manage competing prioritiesadvanced technical skills in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint as well as legal practice software systems such as Mattersphere, Elite and iManageexcellent written and oral communication skillsthe flexibility and willingness to undertake a variety of tasks to meet client deadlines and business needs.You will work with a community of professionals dedicated to the national interest.
