Senior management will be provided with reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision, or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to a senior manager, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.ResponsibilitiesThe First Aid/Admin officer is responsible for management of the first aid area, ensuring it is clean, well organised and maintained in accordance with current OHS standards.Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:Attend to and monitor students who become ill during the school day.
Notify parents/carers of those students who need to be transported home.Responsible for the assessment and first aid treatment of minor injuries and organising appropriate care with parents to follow up other injuries.Maintain and update documented first aid procedures.Order, store, monitor and administer medication and medical supplies in accordance with the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances legislation.Liaise between staff, students and parents/carers regarding medical or social issues of concern through direct contact, emails and Compass posts.Responsible for accurate records being kept to ensure the health and safety of students.Appropriate reporting of incidents on Compass and eduSafe Plus according to Department of Education (DE) guidelines.Keep staff informed, when permission is given, of students who require special medical allowances in class i.e.
Blue Card system, notification verbally or Compass postings.Communicate with parents when health issues arise in the school environment.Liaise with relevant staff before excursions.
Print the event handbook and highlight students with medical conditions i.e.
EpiPen reminders, diabetic alerts, epilepsy alerts, etc.
Recommend and organise appropriate first aid equipment required for excursions and camps.Ensure all Camp Medical Forms are obtained prior to camps.
Liaise with relevant staff to review the Camp Medical Forms prior to school camps and follow up, where necessary, incomplete forms or forms that require further medical information or clarification.Liaise with Whitehorse Immunisation Program team to organise and facilitate the tri-annual immunisation programs and catch-up programs within the College.
Organise and follow up consent forms for student immunisations to ensure that the actual days run with minimal disruption to classes.
Help parents with immunisation enquiries and immunisation schedules.Organise the annual staff influenza and DTP vaccinations.Monitor year 7 enrolment forms (Medical Section) to enable the school to accurately anticipate the medical needs of students commencing the following year.Liaise with parents prior to Year 7 Camp to assist with any anxiety concerns and interview any of those parents who may require introduction to the School Counsellor for further intervention.Continually maintain and update Anaphylaxis/Asthma/Allergy student documentation.Maintain DE policy on anaphylaxis guidelines in the College.
This includes biannual staff review sessions, parent interviews, student interviews, associated notifications around the school and bi-annual anaphylaxis reviews.Interview all the Anaphylactic students and their parents prior to their commencement at Koonung to discuss Koonung's Anaphylaxis policy with the students and their parents and the expectations of all parties involved.
Manage a safe and easy transition from Primary School to Secondary School with regard to each student's Anaphylaxis Management.Ongoing education of Anaphylactic students to assist them with the adjustment into adult life and learning how to manage their own self-care.Continuous contact with parents of Anaphylactic students to remind parents about EpiPen replacements and annual reviews of each student's Anaphylaxis Management Plans for the forthcoming year.Communicate with parents prior to overseas tours to ensure the safe management of their child while they are overseas through thorough planning.Organise staff First Aid/CPR/Asthma/Anaphylaxis training and maintain staff training records.Support curriculum programs-e.g.
Live Life, information on drugs/ health issues and Health/ PE, Food.Promote healthy food programs, sleep and health information and individual advice regarding healthy diet and eating habits in the newsletter, in the Chronicle, on Compass and at Year Level assemblies.Regular school newsletter information regarding public health issues such as head lice alerts, influenza updates, etc.Supply and monitor first aid bags and equipment around the school according to OHS guidelines and raising the staff awareness of OHS requirements.Report any OHS issues that arise from student injuries/accidents.Maintain confidentiality at all times.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.EEO AND OHS CommitmentApplicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction.
