The College endeavours to encourage each member of our community to be inner-directed, responsible, compassionate and just.About the roleGood Shepherd Catholic College, Mount Isa is seeking an experienced and dedicated School Officer - ASL First Nations Education. This role is a term time, fixed term (12 months) position completing 30 hours per week across five days.The primary purpose of the School Officer - ASL First Nations Education is to work in collaboration with teachers to provide appropriate advice, practical support and guidance to assist First Nation students with learning and development. The School Officer will actively promote student engagement in the Emerging Leaders Program.Key AccountabilitiesThe Key Accountabilities are as follows but not limited to, and may vary based on classroom and student's support needs:Work in classrooms, with teachers, providing support for First Nations studentsLiaise with teachers to determine the progress and wellbeing of First Nations studentsAssist First Nations students in the transition from community to school and be a positive role modelProvide guidance, pastoral care and advocacy for First Nations students and their familiesProvide awareness to school staff on First Nations student backgroundsSupport First Nations Students engaged in the Emerging Leaders ProgramDevelop and maintain relationships with local First Nations community groupsAssist in coordination and promotion of First Nations cultural education events within the School CommunityTo join this vibrant school community, you'll needExperienceDemonstrated capacity to organise and prioritise a range of tasksAbility to provide information and support to stakeholders regarding First Nations communitiesDemonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a teamDemonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the learning needs of First Nations studentsSkillsUnderstanding of, and ability to develop, links between the school and First Nations communitiesProfessional presentation skills with the ability to engage both students and parentsWell-developed computer literacy to work in partnership with classroom teachersOrganisational planning and coordination skillsAttributesEnthusiastic, flexible with a proactive attitudeConfident and engaging with a personal warmth that engenders mutual respectResponsive to the needs of the school communityMandatory CriteriaCurrent Working with Children Suitability CardCurrent Driver's LicenceAbility to travel within the Catholic Diocese of TownsvilleAbility to perform the physical requirements of the roleSome employees may be subject to pre-employment medical assessments.
