About the role
The Health Systems Group leads the development of the Institute's strategies for acquiring and providing information on the activity, performance, and financing of the Australian health system.
Key functions include maintaining national hospitals data collections, producing the annual record on health spending in Australia, monitoring the performance and safety of the health system, and reporting on injuries and activity in the medical, dental, and pharmaceutical sectors.
The Health Economics Unit is responsible for producing key outputs such as the annual Health Expenditure Australia report, the annual report on disease expenditure, health system spending per case of disease and for certain risk factors, and international health expenditure reporting to the OECD/WHO.
Additionally, the unit releases reports on COVID-19 spending and Medicare funding of GP services and provides First Nations pharmaceutical and health expenditure estimates for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Performance Framework Report.
The Health Economics Unit is looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent data analysis, conceptual and communication skills.
Under general direction you will:
Be a team player and work collaboratively as part of the Health Economics Unit.
Conduct research, perform statistical analysis and make recommendations to support the development of estimates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Health Expenditure, and the Health and Welfare Workforce.
Prepare reports and present findings to the Department of Health and Aged Care and other stakeholders.
Be responsible for own work and the delivery of tasks to deadlines.
Liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies as required.
Undertake other duties as required.
