CES is also a VDOT pre-qualified contractor specializing in the construction of interstate and roadway lighting, overhead and ground-mounted signs, traffic signals, electrical work ITS, and roadway construction.
We are seeking to hire a Roadway Lighting Foreman to support our clients in the Northern Virginia area.
Position Summary:
The Roadway Lighting Foreman position is a full-time position with direct responsibility for personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, and quality.
The Foreman will supervise and work alongside a crew of employees, and occasionally subcontractors, installing and constructing roadway lighting projects, including but not limited to maintenance of traffic (MOT), excavation, backfill, reinforcing steel, concrete placement, troubleshooting, installing, maintaining, and repairing roadway lighting systems.
The Supervisor must have experience with roadway lighting systems, be mechanically inclined, have experience with electrical troubleshooting, and have a general knowledge of electrical theory and tools.
The position requires experience to perform the tasks required and ensure that projects are completed safely, on-time, and within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the assigned project/task is completed on schedule and in accordance with the plans and set specifications.
Train, develop, and monitor the safety practices (including PPE) of all field employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings, one on one development, and disciplinary action (if necessary).
Follow all requirements in the Company / Employee Handbook and Safety Manual, including safety training, employee observation, emergency procedures, and accident reporting and investigation.
Ensure compliance of production staff with all company policies and procedures, OSHA, EPA, and DOT guidelines.
Supervise, coordinate, or schedule the activities of construction workers.
Read specifications, plans, and blueprints to determine construction requirements.
Replace panel boxes, breakers, ballasts, and bulbs.
Perform preventative maintenance on roadway lights.
Remove and repair damaged poles and lights.
Troubleshoot and repair faults in roadway lighting circuits.
Install new roadway lights, conduits, bases, and wiring.
Inspect jobsites and work for compliance with the National Electric Code.
Participate and respond to 24 hour on-call services, if required.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area and ensure all employees reporting to the Foreman do the same.
Read and follow plans, shop drawings, material lists, guidelines and apply necessary timelines to meet project completion schedules.
Submit crewmember's timesheets to CES payroll department daily.
Record and submit production reports for all work performed and quantities installed daily.
Fulfill all regular and advanced installation/construction duties including project layout and complete required paperwork in a timely manner daily.
Perform equipment inspections and request service and maintenance if necessary.
Maintain good relations with the public, engineers, architects, inspectors, and customers to facilitate job progress and promote a positive company image.
Transport materials, tools, and equipment to/from installation sites.
Cut materials to specified sizes for installation using power tools as necessary.
Must pass pre-employment background and drug screening.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required.
Experience in highway construction preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
OSHA 10 hour preferred.
VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Safety Traffic Control Certification preferred.
Erosion and Sediment Control Contractors Certification (ESCCC) preferred.
First Aid/CPR training preferred.
Current Driver's License required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Able to read and understand construction plans, drawings, specifications, and contracts.
Able to write simple correspondence and complete timesheets and quantity production sheets.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
Able to communicate effectively and provide feedback to crew members in a professional manner.
Team and Safety Oriented.
Physical Demands:
Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
Includes standing and sitting for extended periods of time, stooping, bending and crouching.
Able to walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
Able to stand, kneel, squat, bend, push, pull, climb, stretch, see, and hear regularly while performing the essential functions of the job.
Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic.
Coordination between hands, eyes, and feet to guide tools, equipment and objects is required.
Able to work overtime and weekends, if necessary.
Able to travel when required.
Working Conditions:
Work outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions in all seasons (i.e., rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
Noise level in the work environment is loud.
Exposure to dust, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, concrete, and other environmental factors of a construction job site.
Work is performed near heavy equipment and moving machinery, near high-speed moving traffic.
