About the role
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is seeking a Director of Business Operations to lead fisheries licensing, financial management, and research facility operations for NSW Fisheries.
This role ensures legislative compliance, drives financial planning, and oversees the safe operation of research stations and labs.
Focused on improving systems, customer service, and sustainable funding, the Director will manage commercial and recreational fisheries licensing, refine procedures, and provide financial leadership, including budget management and policy support.
The role also involves enhancing business performance and supporting fisheries research and stock enhancement initiatives at research stations.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Strong leadership and operational management experience, particularly in administrative procedures, including licensing, data administration, and financial oversight.
Advanced financial management skills, including the ability to provide detailed financial analysis and data-led modelling to inform strategic initiatives and business cases, are essential.
Experience in overseeing research facilities and laboratories, while ensuring compliance with safety, efficiency, and customer service standards is critical.
You will be someone who can:
Operate with a high level of autonomy and be fully and directly accountable for the advice you provide to all levels of government and stakeholders.
Develop budgets, identify cost-effective solutions, and manage risks effectively.
Proven ability to drive strategic reform within complex operational settings, including addressing challenges such as improving licensing systems and establishing sustainable funding for research and development.
