Division: Future Directions and Resilience Section: Public Affairs Salary: $103,939.00 to $120,314.00 per annum + super We are looking for a highly proactive Media and Communications Advisor to join a Local Council based in Western Sydney.
This role is part of the Public Affairs team which plays a critical role in shaping the Council's narrative, managing public interest issues and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders.
About the Role: As a Media and Communications Advisor, you will provide high-level support to senior leaders including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Mayoral delegate.
This includes day-to-day support and advice and ensuring they are informed, concisely briefed and prepared ahead of time to deliver key messages to all stakeholders as the Council's primary spokesperson.
Working within the Public Affairs team, you will be responsible for: Preparing concise and impactful communication and briefing materials Supporting strategic media engagement for senior leaders Crafting media releases, responses, and managing reputation-sensitive issues Delivering on-the-ground support at events and public activities This role requires someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and experience working in high-profile or fast-paced environments.
We are looking for someone with: Tertiary qualification in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field Experience preparing briefing materials for executives or elected officials Proven ability to develop media strategies and support primary organisational spokespersons Strong skills in media release writing and public relations issue management Previous experience in government or public sector organisations This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team, where you will make a tangible difference in the community.
