About the Role
The Health & Safety Specialist will play a pivotal role in driving a culture that promotes health, safety and sustainability at the heart of everything we do across the Telstra Group.

As a Health & Safety Specialist , you thrive on working collaboratively with stakeholders and leverage your exceptional interpersonal skills to advise, influence and promote a safe and healthy organisational culture.
With a focus on Retail/Contact Centre/Office/Home environment, you thrive on leveraging your passion, technical knowledge and experience in health, safety, wellbeing and environment to inform decision making, contribute to the development and drive the implementation of key policies, frameworks and programs that enable the business to safely and sustainably achieve its objectives.

Your key responsibilities include:
Partner with business, build trusted relationships and influence decision making to support a strong focus on HSWE.
Support your stakeholders to understand their operational HSWE risks and obligations for the Retail/Contact Centre/Office/Home workstreams and help drive a positive safety culture.
Provide insights and reporting to enable functional and cross-functional risk management and oversight.
Work collaboratively across workstreams to ensure all relevant risks are identified and consistently understood and addressed.
Contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of the Telstra Group Retail/Contact Centre/Office/Home workstream Risk Profiles and agreed controls necessary to manage our Retail/Contact Centre/Office/Home workforce HSWE risk within agreed risk appetite.
Participate in the development, delivery and ongoing improvement of risk management, awareness programs and strategies through cross-functional and functional working groups.
Interpret key legislation and regulatory obligations to guide the development and implementation of safe work practices.
Contribute to the design of key health, safety and wellbeing communications to promote risk improvement initiatives and drive a thriving safety culture across the organisation, our partners and external stakeholders.
Identify compliance obligations through risk profiling and provide input into the annual compliance program based on Retail/Contact Centre/Office/Home work environment risks.
Facilitate and/or conduct risk assessments and the development of controls.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise for Retail/Contact Centre/Office/Home related operational activities including tender responses, project management planning and proposed changes to work practices.
Assist the Safety Security and Wellbeing Assurance team with the planning and execution of Retail/Contact Centre/Office/Home related second line audits.
Collaborate with the Incident Response team and the business to respond to and learn from incidents and where appropriate, develop programs to prevent recurrence or harm.
Partner with the Support & Recovery teams to support the early intervention strategy and associated programs to achieve safe and sustainable return to work.
To be successful in this role, you must have the following qualifications:
Essential Qualifications
Relevant diploma or tertiary qualifications with 5 years' experience as a HSWE specialist/advisor, preferably working in a high-risk industry.
A high-level understanding of HSWE management systems and risk management principles.
Sound knowledge of, and experience in managing health, safety and environment standards and regulations.
Experience facilitating risk assessments and the maintenance of risk profiles for business units.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence across the organisation.
Superior communication (written and verbal), coaching, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Experience in HSWE data reporting.
Research and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to work independently and to handle multiple or competing priorities.
Desirable Qualifications
Lead Auditor qualification and experience in the planning and undertaking of audits.
Experience developing and implementing Critical Risk Controls, as well as assessing Critical Control effectiveness.
