About the Department The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives.
It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.
About the Division IMTD is responsible for supporting one of the largest technology networks in Victoria and leading the department's technology, digital capability, business systems and digital transformation.
This network consists of Schools, Corporate and Early Childhood Education (ECE) including a school user base of more than 1500 Government schools, 50,000 teachers and 650,000 students.
IMTD provides innovation and leadership in the transformation and management of the Department's digital capability through the implementation of solutions on the department's cloud environment (IaaS), enterprise cloud platforms (PaaS) and software (SaaS), using agile practices with a focus on user experience, security, and integration.
About the Role The Senior Data Engineer (for Information Management Platforms) plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing complex data and information management solutions in areas such as data integration, data warehousing, business intelligence, machine learning, and analytics, overseeing the solution from strategy through implementation to managed service.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you are responsible for the hands-on design, development, and implementation of scalable and robust data architectures and solutions that support advanced analytics, business intelligence, and enterprise data needs.
You will lead the creation and optimization of data pipelines, ensuring seamless integration and transformation of data across multiple platforms.
Working closely with business stakeholders, you will align data systems with organizational objectives, enforce data governance and security standards, and mentor junior engineers to foster high-performance teams.
With expertise in data modelling, cloud technologies, data integration, and reporting tools, you will drive innovation and continuously improve data systems to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
Attributes * Data Architecture, Design, and Integration: Design and implement scalable data architectures, and create efficient data models.
Actively develop and maintain ETL pipelines and integration points using REST APIs and web services to ensure smooth data movement across platforms.
* Building Reporting and Analytics Tools: Develop and optimize reporting and analytics solutions, including Power BI and Tableau.
Build and maintain interactive dashboards, optimize report performance, and create data models for decision-making support, ensuring seamless access to insights.
* Implementing Security, Data Governance, and Best Practices: Implement hands-on data security controls, data governance frameworks, and ensure compliance with regulations.
Actively enforce best practices for data management and ensure data integrity, lineage, and security through technical solutions.
* Providing Technical Guidance and Support: Offer direct technical guidance and hands-on support to teams, resolving complex data engineering challenges.
Mentor junior engineers, helping them implement best practices, and ensuring the successful delivery of data engineering tasks.
* Driving Innovation and Process Improvement: Actively explore new technologies and techniques to innovate and improve data integration, reporting, and analytics.
Take a hands-on approach to testing and integrating advanced data engineering solutions that enhance performance and scalability.
* Leading Project Road mapping and Quality Assurance: Develop and maintain roadmaps for data projects, ensuring deliverables are on schedule and meet quality standards.
Lead hands-on efforts to resolve issues, debug data pipelines, and perform rigorous testing to ensure data systems align with architectural goals.
* Collaborating with Stakeholders and Leading Teams: Work closely with stakeholders to understand data needs, actively participating in meetings, gathering requirements, and providing hands-on technical solutions.
Lead data engineering teams by setting a hands-on example, fostering collaboration, and ensuring successful execution of data engineering initiatives.
