SSE Renewables operate the largest fleet of hydro-electric power assets across eight hydro schemes in Scotland.
Our portfolio totals 1,459MW of installed capacity, which includes pumped storage and flexible hydro.
Our assets consist of some of the most iconic power station sites constructed, which brought hydro-electric power to the Scottish Glens 80 years ago.
Base Location: Perth
Work type: Permanent - Full Time – Flexible First options available
Salary: £58,630- £68,098 depending on skills and experience + performance-related bonus + shift allowance + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.
As a Hydro Schedule & Dispatch Engineer, you'll be accountable for managing and maintaining the safe and efficient operation of the Hydro Generation fleet in adherence to all statutory and regulatory requirements from our 24/7 Hydro Operations Centre in Perth.
Main accountabilities will include:
Managing generation output, effectively maximising value and minimising loss for the business.
Producing a strategic operating schedule for our hydro generators.
Acting as the control point for all interactions with National Grid as required under the Grid Code.
Dispatching power from hydro generators in accordance with changing situations such as weather events, plant breakdown, network reconfiguration, failure, or disruption.
Ensuring that all operations, decision making and actions relating to the day to day operating of the Hydro generation fleet has no detrimental effect on People, the Environment, Assets or Reputation (PEAR) of SSE.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
A minimum HNC qualification in an engineering or science discipline, with demonstrable relevant experience.
Experience of generating plant and/or HV systems.
Understanding of the Energy market and Balancing mechanism.
Strong attention to detail and self-motivation, with the ability to manage your own workloads.
Interest and understanding of the SSE Hydro scheme and Hydro Power Station plant characteristics.
