Two divisions – Santos Energy Solutions and Santos Upstream Gas and Liquids – are accountable for global portfolio management and strategy.About the RoleSantos is seeking multiple enthusiastic Operations Specialists to join our team.
This is a fantastic chance for young engineers to work on innovative projects, gain valuable experience, and grow in a supportive environment.Based between Perth and Varanus Island, this role will operate across a 24-week continuous cycle – 8 weeks in Perth Ops Centre, 2 weeks onsite, 2 weeks off, 8 weeks in Perth Ops Centre and 4 weeks off.
Initially it will be dayshift only working a 5.00am to 5.00pm but the roster will introduce nightshift in Q2-2025.
The maximum number of nightshifts will be 28 shifts of 70 shift cycle.Reporting to the Production Manager, the primary objective of this position is to monitor, operate and control offshore/offshore gas processing facilities.
The skills required by the Operations specialist role are critical thinking, fault finding, trouble shooting and problem solving, as well as the ability to maintain situational awareness during both normal operations and abnormal situations.Operations Specialists must maintain familiarity with site operations and retain the competency to carry out the site Operator (Process) role.Key responsibilities of the role include (but not limited to):Monitoring, operating and controlling gas production equipment to maintain the process within the safe operating limit, including offshore wells/platforms, process plant, and supporting pipeline infrastructure.Managing production streams to meet quality and production targets/nominationsMinimising flaring, venting and fuel usage to reduce operating costs and meet company production targetsInitiating emergency response for process or site incidents: remotely make plant safe and support the ongoing emergency response effort.Validating production data across fields and report volumes.
Identify losses and equipment system availabilityResponding to recover deviations from the Production PlanAbout youThe ideal candidates will be qualified Operations Specialists with a Certificate III in Process Plant Operations or a Process Engineer holding a tertiary degree in process or chemical engineering.Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities are essential.We are open to considering recent graduates, as this role offers a great opportunity for junior professionals to develop their skills and advance their careers.In addition, the following skills and experience are highly valued:Previous experience in Control Room operations, preferably within the Oil & Gas industryPrevious experience working with Distributed Control Systems (DCS)Operation of major processing and power generation equipment packagesExperience with PLC based Control, Independent Process Shutdown & Fire & Gas SystemsExperience in oil and gas processing operationsSound level of analytical, oral, computer and written communications skillsAny knowledge of the following will be looked upon favourably:Knowledge of Maintenance SystemsKnowledge of Permit to Work processes & equipment isolationsExperience in the Oil/Gas industry together with offshore or remote location experience in a multi-skilled environment, or experience working in remote locations in a multi-skilled environmentKnowledge of Maintenance SystemsKnowledge of Permit to Work processes & equipment isolationsExperience in the Oil/Gas industry together with offshore or remote location experience in a multi-skilled environment, or experience working in remote locations in a multi-skilled environmentIf you're passionate about engineering and ready for new challenges, we want to hear from youSupporting a Diverse WorkforceSantos acknowledges that we operate on the traditional lands of Aboriginal people.
