Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary opened in 1927 as a safe refuge for sick, injured, and orphaned koalas.
Today, Lone Pine remains a much-loved and iconic destination for local and international guests to not

About the Position:The key role of Veterinary Nurse is to support the Veterinarian and to provide professional nursing
care for all hospitalised and quarantined animals, and those requiring treatment in the sanctuary. The
position of Veterinary Nurse reports primarily to the Veterinarian, and secondarily to the Curator and
Wildlife Administrator as relevant.
This department is fundamental to the ongoing success of Lone Pine's wildlife section. The Hospital
Team is staffed by a small experienced, dedicated group of casual employees, seven days a week,
including public holidays.
This role is specifically to cover maternity leave; however, there is an opportunity for this position to
continue beyond the maternity leave period.
What we are looking for?Qualified veterinary nurseMin 2 years' nursing experiencePrevious experience working with Australian native animalsKnowledge of the husbandry and handling of Australian native animalsPrior experience with domestic animals and livestock is advantageousProven experience providing high quality care for animalsA person who is highly organised, adaptable, reliable and shows common senseAbility to work a highly physical roleWork effectively both as a part of a team and autonomously and demonstrate a high quality of communication skillsDemonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and professional developmentA strong desire and ability to engage with our guestsSkills in clinical pathology are desirableSuccessful applicants will be required to undertake a Rabies and Q Fever vaccination programMin of 3 days availability a week including regular weekend, public holiday and school holiday workResponsibilities:Assisting in standard Veterinary proceduresThe daily care of animals within the hospital section and reporting of observations.In the absence of the Veterinarian onsite, assisting keepers in identifying animal health concerns and reporting those to the Veterinarian or Onsite Manager.An understanding of and an ability to maintain Quarantine standards within the hospital section.Working well within a dynamic team of keepers, to ensure the health and welfare of all the animals in our care are maintained.Preference will be given to candidates with more availability, spread across weekdays, weekends and school holidays.
