Position: Head of CommissioningLocation: Melbourne (hybrid)Design & Build Recruitment is partnering with a forward-thinking engineering firm based in Melbourne, committed to shaping the future of sustainable energy.
Expertise in transmission networks, HV substations, transmission lines, utility-scale BESS, solar farms, wind farms, and grid connections, they empower their clients to navigate the complexities of renewable energy generation and transmission infrastructure development.
Role Summary:As part of their ongoing growth and success, our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Commissioning Manager/Director to oversee and manage the commissioning phase of major renewable energy projects.
This senior leadership role is essential in ensuring all systems and infrastructure are brought online efficiently, safely, and in line with industry standards.
You will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities across various renewable energy projects, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Strong Project Pipeline: 4+ HV Infrastructure projects in progress, with more opportunities on the horizon.Professional Development: Access to funding and support for professional memberships, including Engineers Australia.Work-Life Balance: Flexible work-from-home options and a strong focus on employee well-being.Key Responsibilities: Lead and oversee the commissioning of renewable energy projects, including HV substations, BESS, solar farms, and wind farm installations.Develop and implement detailed commissioning plans and procedures, ensuring the successful start-up of systems in line with project timelines and regulatory requirements.Manage a multidisciplinary team through the commissioning process, ensuring smooth integration with engineering, design, and operational teams.Provide technical leadership and guidance during the commissioning phase, troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise.Ensure all commissioning activities comply with safety standards, quality controls, and environmental regulations.Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to monitor progress and ensure the successful handover of completed systems.Support the continuous improvement of commissioning practices, identifying efficiencies and innovations to enhance project delivery.Mentor and guide team members, helping to develop their technical skills and career growth.What You'll Bring: A relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (or similar).Proven experience in a Commissioning Manager or Director role, particularly within large-scale infrastructure, energy, or renewable energy projects.Strong background in commissioning in either HV substations, BESS, solar, wind farms or transmission infrastructure projects.In-depth knowledge of grid connection requirements, commissioning standards, and safety protocols for energy infrastructure.Experience with managing multidisciplinary teams and working closely with design, engineering, and operations teams.Familiarity with Australian Standards, industry regulations, and best practices in renewable energy commissioning.A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.If you believe you match the requirements and are open OR looking for your next opportunity, please feel free to reach out to Email: OR mobile: .
