In this role you will partner with our operations and stakeholders to champion environmental performance. With a global reach, the opportunities to develop and grow your career are broad and exciting.Reporting to the Superintendent Environment and working in a collaborative team of environmental professionals within the Environment and Labs BSL team, you will be:Interfacing with on-site personnel to promote environmental goals and solve environmental issues including performing inspections to assess compliance risksPreparing and submitting compliance reports and data required to comply with our license to operate.Managing environmental issues, for example: surface water quality, stormwater management, monitoring, waste management, groundwater quality, emissions to air, incident reporting and hydrocarbon/contamination managementDelivering and participating in audits (internal & external).Working as part of Environmental Services team to influence site performance.Implementing and verifying the business' environmental management systemProviding environmental advice in the interpretation of legislation, acts and regulationsIdentify and implement continuous improvement projects to deliver business efficiencies and goals.What you'll bringA commitment to the safety of yourself and your teamA Bachelor's degree in an Environmental, Engineering or related discipline with knowledge of key concepts theories and practices related to environmental aspects & impacts, risk management, State and Federal Legislation and environmental management systemsExperience with Management Systems ISO 14000:1 and the Queensland Environment regulatory frameworkRelevant industry (large scale smelting, processing or chemical manufacturing) or mining experienceDemonstrated experience in executing work in air, water and waste management aspects.Willingness to get hands on with problem solving and improvementStrong attitude towards safety and improvementExcellent communication and partnering skills with the ability to work independentlyResilience and a dynamic approach to problem solvingWhat we offerBe recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you've helped the department progress.A work environment where safety is always the number one priorityA permanent position working directly for Rio TintoA competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive programComprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate familyAttractive share ownership planCompany-provided insurance coverExtensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging optionsCareer development and education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions.Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing supportLeave for all of life's reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more)Possible domestic relocation assistanceWhere you'll be workingBoyne Smelters Limited is Australia's second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship.
